A federal court in New York City has moved to further restrict access to long-sought-after secret files in the Jeffrey Epstein saga. In a Wednesday order, Senior U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska determined that attorneys for Epstein survivor Virginia Roberts Giuffre had improperly gained access to many of those highly-prized documents.
Preska determined that certain discovery materials covered by a years-old protective order “are not properly in possession” of Giuffre’s current legal team and “thus must be destroyed.” That means that they can’t have copies of the documents in question; it does not mean that all copies of the documents will be deleted from existence. Additionally, the law firm of Cooper & Kirk must provide “an affidavit detailing the steps that it took to destroy the materials.”
The ruling was also a setback for Harvard Law professor emeritus and former Epstein attorney Alan Dershowitz, who has repeatedly sought access to the full tranche of Epstein files and discovery materials.
“Mr. Dershowitz’s request is denied,” the court ruled.

See, it doesn't mean all of the materials will be deleted. It means they will be lost, accidentally erased, or wiped, like with a cloth.
My reading is that the evidence isn’t being destroyed, but copies of the evidence. The judge is trying to control who has access to the evidence. Since it’s subject to a protective order, the judge wants to limit the chances of it being leaked.
Gee judge, we can’t find them but when we do we surly will destroy them (as we save them for later).
You are in possession of evidence that proves your case. We in The Swamp do not approve of you having such evidence. Therefore, we direct you to destroy such evidence.

Rules apply to democrats? Surely you can’t be serious.
Once you destroy the copies, what is to stop someone from destroying the originals? Why would a judge want the copies destroyed? Surely those holding the copies know what is in the documents. The horse has left the barn. Why not just say these copies are not admissible as evidence? Odd.

It’s very unlikely the originals will be destroyed. As you say, people already know what’s in the documents. I can see, though, why a judge who knows copies are in the wrong hands would issue an order for them to be destroyed. In my view, it’s mostly a symbolic order to avoid claims of impropriety from opposing counsel.

The copies that Guiffre's lawyers have will be destroyed.
The originals stay put, under restricted access.
Preska was on Dubya's short list of Supreme Court candidates, and he nominated her for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
She doesn't appear to be a fly-by-night political type.
There is a lot of history of brothels and call girl operations being taken down, publicly acknowledged ledgers,"black books" and accounting data in the hands of LE but have seem to have disappeared to never see the light of day or court record.

Once long ago destroying evidence was a crime. But this evidence is against the Clinton’s. That kind of evidence has warranted the death penalty for decades now.
