I doubt he meant to but he was driving fast down a highway where clearly cars were blocking it as is.
He was not driving fast down a "highway"; he was driving fast on the "freeway"; which, I believe, a lot of us do. It was late at night, dark, freeway, and suddenly there are a couple of cars blocking lanes of the freeway. He swerves, so as not to hit the cars; but, he does hit the "protestors", who (as I read in another article) were wearing dark clothing.
Hubby's response to this was: "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". My take away is that these two protestors are candidates for a Darwin Award.
