The Philippine military will maintain close ties with the United States and train with its forces even as it gets closer to China, the new armed forces chief told lawmakers in his confirmation hearing this week.
General Gilbert Gapay said that while our ties with China are warming up, it doesnt mean we are abandoning our ties with the United States and other traditional allies, we are maintaining all these ties with allied countries.

The Philippine Gov’t under the socialist Duterte is trying to play both sides of the field.
He desperately wants close ties with China but, China is uninterested in being a partner and neighbor with the Philippines. China is only interested in total regional domination.
He uses the US Treaty as the stick to try to get China to play nice with the Philippines but, again, China doesn’t give a rats ass about what the Philippine gov’t wants.
Skunks are always run over in the middle of the road.
Can’t blame Duarte for trying to do the best he can for his nation. Suck right between superpowers. Everyone playing this game knows the rules; get the best deal for your people and nation you can. Trump, Xi, Duarte; this is the Art of the Deal.
