Yup. Instead of $90 billion for a choo-choo to nowhere, build a dozen reservoirs for hydro and irrigation, and a half dozen nuke plants for electricity. . Duh. This ain’t complicated.
Part of that $90 billion was spent on swapping out diesel locomotives for all-electric locomotives. Never mind that the diesel locomotives are hybrids that generate electricity to power electric motors in the wheels. Idiot politicians! Now we're stuck with electric trains sucking up more electricity when we were fine with the diesels (CalTrain etc.). All the stations and rail lines were rebuilt to accomodate the electricity necessary to operate. These local lines share track with the high-speed rail to nowhere.
