And no- Trump did not attack Bolton in any way UNTIL Bolton left office and started bad-mouthing trump first. He apparently does not know how to leave when he disagrees with policy and simply say so.

Exactly, this whole thing makes no sense -- how did Bolton grow so nuts?
Except, if we remember that Trump brought Bolton on in the first place to be his Mr. Hard-#ss Hawk, to scare foreign countries that Trump might just do anything.
Now that he's left, Bolton sends them the opposite message -- Trump is too nice, too eager to make a deal with them.
In reality Trump is the same as be always was, but context, context means a lot, and Bolton provides cover against Democrat claims that Trump is a "war monger".
It's the only logical explanation I can think of.
