The President and members of the Senate swore an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. The Constitution requires the President to nominate individuals to fill vacancy on the federal courts, including the Supreme Court. The Constitution requires the members of the Senate to advise and consent (or not) for nominees to the court. The President is upholding his oath in forwarding a nominee to the Supreme Court. In order to uphold their oaths, Senators must vote to approve, or not, the nominee. What does Senator Blumenthal consider to be illegitimate about fulfilling his oath of office?
