How Trump’s ‘enthusiasm factor’ could lead to another surprise win on Election Day
New York Post ^ | October 10, 2020 | Mary Kay Linge

“It was mind-boggling,” said Charles Ryan. “I’m out on my boat, there’s thousands of people, and every one of them has this big smile. I’ve never seen such happiness. It was infectious.”

Four flags fluttered from the stern of Ryan’s runabout on Sept. 5 as he motored through New Jersey’s Barnegat Bay: the Stars and Stripes, a “Blue Lives Matter” banner, and a pair of streamers honoring President Donald J. Trump.

“One of them says ‘Trump: No More Bulls–t,'” said Ryan, of New Hope, Pa. “I’m not into flying anything too vulgar.”

As Ryan’s boat joined at least 2,000 other watercraft for the Trump Law and Order Boat Parade, the same scene was playing out in dozens of harbors, rivers and lakes from the Jersey Shore to San Diego that Labor Day weekend.

One week later, on Sept. 12, more than 16,000 cars, pickups, motorcycles and semis festooned with banners and bunting jammed Cincinnati’s I-275 beltway in a convoy that looped through three states, one of several Trump car caravans being organized on Facebook. Meanwhile, an unknown fan in Norwell, Mass., stenciled “Trump 2020” in bright yellow letters across the travel lanes of busy Route 3 (Highway crews quickly painted over the message.)

Public displays of exuberant affection for Trump have been building for months now, but they reached a fervent new pitch when the president came down with COVID-19.

As hundreds of well-wishers gathered outside Trump’s hospital suite at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., last weekend, New Yorkers, too, took to the streets.

More than 700 decorated vehicles converged on Albany Oct. 3 in a parade to honor the ailing president. In Staten Island, 2,500 Trump fans filmed a raucous get-well message that racked up 6 million views on Twitter.

Someone told me to google Cook’s Garage:
TRUMP Road Rally, Sun., 18OCT20, Lubbock, TX, 2-5 PM CDT (our SECOND rally – the FIRST one on 27SEP20 featured over 8,000 vehicles as we circled the city on Loop 289 – total of 27 mi.). People came from a dist. of 100 mi.
See: Cook’s Garage website – will be the host AGAIN!

People are fired up! Even black magic obama didn’t have this.

This time theyll overcome the enthusiasm factor by simply creating as much count chaos as they can, knowing full well that tens of millions of Americans are going to back their play with as much “genuine moral outrage” as they can muster. They have no choice.

Trump loyalists shut down Fifth Avenue as they showed their support for the President in front of Trump Tower.

Was driving down LaGrange Road [RT 45] in Orland Park, Il today - Super Blue Cook County - President Trump Supporters on the corners waving signs and flags - 100’s up and down the street.

It was great!

One is campaigning like he wants the job. The other is campaigning as if a win is given.

How’d that strategy work for Hitlery?

Just this week alone, I drove through Middleburg Heights and Strongsville, both suburbs of Cleveland, OH, and they both had pop-up rallies on the side of the road -— 4-6 dozen patriots waving Trump flags, American flags and hooting and hollering to the people driving by and blowing their horns.

I see way more enthusiasm for Trump today than I saw in 2016.

I have been reading a lot lately about voter turnout—and it looks like young voter turnout (which generally favors Democrats) is going to be _very_ low this year.

Factors:

—Many college students are not on campus, so the Democratic campus organizing will not work.
—Young people rate “convenience” as very important, and today that means they do not want to go to a voting booth to vote but would be willing to vote online.
—Young people hate “snail mail”, view it as a horse and buggy remnant, so will not be attracted to mail-in voting.

Total impact on the election—maybe a full percentage point nationwide deducted from the Democrats total—may be enough to bring New Hampshire into the Trump column.

They are the only ones that are arrogant enough to think so. The same type that has a team of experts and a multimillion dollar computer system to see of it’s raining. The rest of us look out the window.

I honestly think that Clinton was in better shape than Biden… She had some extremely enthusiastic support

I do not feel as certain as you seem to that young people will not vote in as great numbers this year. I do believe that many of those who voted twice in 2016, once at school and once by absentee ballot from home, will be much less inclined to do that this year. There has been a lot more publicity about there being penalties for voting twice.

States like New Hampshire which have same-day registration will probably not see as many people doing that either. Definitely not people coming in on buses from neighboring states with college students on them.

Weird question. Are some people who have received vote by mail ballots from their local registrar of voters, also being encouraged to apply for absentee ballots? So what if they apply, and get two ballots as a result?

It varies wildly by state, but here in CT what is received by mail is a _request_ for an absentee ballot, not an actual ballot.

If election officials play it straight they will check off each ballot against the voter list so it will not be possible to vote twice in the same precinct (though of course if someone moved and they were registered in more than one precinct and weren’t purged from the old address they could vote twice or more...).

Around here and ultra liberal Marin County California where they’re actually fairly nice liberals I’ve only seen a few Biden Harris signs there’s almost no enthusiasm you would have to be a complete moron to hang a trump sign it would either just disappear or something else would happen if it would be good for your day

To be fair to Democrat voters, it’s hard to be enthusiastic when you’re dead and buried.
