China Grabbing Whitsun Reef: 'Sudetenland' in Slow Motion
The Gatestone Institute ^ | March 29, 2021 | Gordon G. Chang

The failure of the Obama administration to defend the Philippines in early 2012, in a confrontation similar to today's, emboldened China's regime to adopt an even more aggressive posture in its peripheral waters.

China claims all the waters inside the dashes are sovereign as well, terming them "blue national soil." There is no legal basis for an assertion of sovereignty of this sort.

Whitsun, which Manila calls Julian Felipe Reef, is 175 nautical miles from Palawan, an island of the Philippines. The feature is within the Philippine "exclusive economic zone"....

[snip]"Many on the Biden team failed to act in 2012. They now have a very rare opportunity to get another chance to do the right thing. Let's hope they will." — Capt. James Fanell, former director of Intelligence and Information Operations at the U.S. Pacific Fleet, to Gatestone Institute, March 2021.

James Holmes, who holds the J. C. Wylie Chair of Maritime Strategy at the U.S. Naval War College, told Gatestone that China's current actions at Whitsun are "an offensive that looks like conquest by increments." Fanell maintains that not opposing China's actions at Whitsun will soon put both Taiwan and the Senkakus at risk.

Makes sense - since the Spratly Islands are west of Whitsun Reef, Whitsun Reef would have to be secured before the Spratlys are taken ...

How close are the Chinese from taking Taiwan....

Like Poland in WW II, will China stage a false flag attack to justify their invasion....

China will just buy them out, by buying themselves onto the boards of Taiwan-based companies.

“How close are the Chinese from taking Taiwan”

Taiwan almost certainly has nuclear weapons and the means of delivering them.

To think otherwise is naive.

China will invade Vietnam first. It’s not like we’ll go in defending that hellhole quagmire.

Their troops will get bloodied, get some liebensraum, and get cocky ready to go fight their renegade province which never declared independence.

Biden will issue strongly worded letters of criticism like Chamberlain.

Well it looks like the PI. is going to have to stand up for itself and order the Chinese out of their territory by a specific date. Then take action.

Unless China faces push back they will continue pushing ahead.

The same with the U.S. we should tell them to keep their ships.Fishing and otherwise out of U.S. waters. If they persist just sink a few. Sooner or later they’ll get the message.

Ask China what happened to German assets in the US during both world wars.

Did this prevent Germany from engaging in either world war?

You can also ask the Japanese what happened to Tokyo, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and another 100 cities in 1945.

Did this prevent Pearl Harbor from happening?

At least the UK appeasers of the 1930 actually believed in appeasement.

Unlike our politicians who are in literal and economic bed with our avowed enemy.

look at all the warmongers drooling

if we still had Subic, we might want to do something about that but since the PI didn’t want US presence....things happen.... and PI is going to have to be big boys and deal with themselves just like they wanted to

but if they want US treasure spent on their behalf, we want something in return - land and trade preference. So - us or China, choose wisely.
