Reading through the documents, I think the characterization of 'scheme to defraud' that Gaetz's own lawyer uses is probably a bit more accurate than an 'extortion' attempt. But, extortion might be an additional element of what they were doing to Gaetz.

The stupidity of the alleged conmen/extortionists is something.

I WONDER if this is a glimpse into what happens to conservatives in the swamp?

The next day, on March 17, Don Gaetz purportedly met with Kent, and Kent handed him a three-page document outlining “Project Homecoming.” That document detailed a plan to save Levinson at the cost of a $25 million loan.

In 1983, Don Gaetz co-founded VITAS Healthcare, and in 2004, he and his co-founders reportedly sold their stock in the company for $406 million.

In the Project Homecoming document, Kent then asked that the loan should be deposited in the trust account of Beggs & Land, naming David L. McGee, and deposited no later than March 19.

The Project Homecoming document states that Gaetz is “under investigation by the FBI for various public corruption and public integrity issues” and alleges that the FBI is aware of photos depicting Gaetz in a “sexual orgy with underage prostitutes.”

This started out weird and now feels like there’s some out of work Hollywood screenwriter doing a side gig.

Gaetz at an orgy with 17 year olds and cameras? Maybe. We don’t necessarily elect the best and brightest.

Scheme to repatriate Levinson? OK...I can kind of see that but why get Gaetz involved. Wouldn’t there be someone in THIS administration to carry the flag around?

$25M cost of repatriation and writing a letter to that effect? I mean, is it possible? Maybe. Does any sane extortionist put that stuff on paper? No. Even the crazy extortionists know better than that.

I just don’t know what to make of this but I do know that the path the federal government has been going down for the past couple of decades makes this kind of insanity possible. God willing it won’t make this kind of insanity plausible as well.

I suspect that the scam might have another dimension. Some of the deep state players may have wanted to create a process crime along the lines of obstruction or justice or bribery, but they managed to trap themselves instead.

Screenshots provided to the Washington Examiner show a message that his father, Don Gaetz, a former Florida state Senate president, said he received from Kent on March 16. The message proposes “a plan that can make [Matt Gaetz’s] future legal and political problems go away.” Gaetz has denied any relationship with a minor.

I don't know if this is true for everyone, but my IPhone shows the initials and first name of the sender. Under that format, this text came from someone with the initials DG and the first name Don.

The cover story of soliciting funds to try to find and free an ex-FBI agent is “plausible deniability”. Of the $25 million demanded there will be a small amount that will be expended on the “search”. The balance will be siphoned off to off shore accounts and never accounted for.

Any criminal case against these lawyers will be muddied up with the veneer of a legitimate attempt to find and free the ex-FBI agent. The offer of a pardon is the fly in the ointment. If that is on tape then extortion applies, big time.

That would seem to be the reason the “sex story” was leaked because someone on the bad team found out about the wire being used for the meeting to arrange the $4.5 million down payment and the conspirators had to be warned to run away.
