Why did one of my favorite authors have to inject leftist politics into his latest book?

Some things are always a joy: beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the laughter of grandchildren, walks on the beach, my wife's cooking — and until now, the Gabriel Allon novels by Daniel Silva. Year after year, I have impatiently awaited summer and the release of his next book.

But this year's offering, The Cellist, has put an end to my craving for Silva's writing. Sadly, in this book, the author has abandoned what is likely more than half his readership and penned a viciously anti-Trump tome.

I knew there was trouble ahead when Silva dedicated his book to the Capitol Police who "defended our republic from the Trump insurrection" of January 6. In his author's notes at the book's conclusion (yes, I read — actually listened to — the entire novel with an increasing sense of pain and loss of a loved one), Silva states that he rewrote the second half of the novel after watching the events of January 6. He states that he believes it to be a day more damaging to our nation than 9/11. He claims he was alerted to turn on the TV by his wife, Jamie Gangel, a correspondent for CNN. Doubtless, it was slanted CNN coverage that he consumed — after all, happy wife, happy life.

I have never known or cared about Daniel Silva's politics

Allon is quite a character.

One of Golda’s boys sent out to deal with the perps of the Munich Games massacre.

His mother was a German Jew raised in Berlin. Survivor of the camps, made her way to Isreal and married. Had a son. Mother was an artist before the camps. Son learned at moma’s knee.

When the wet work for Golda was done, he went to Italy and learned how to restore works of the great masters……

Only to be called back into the company fold, from time to time, by his old mentor.

It’s a damn good series. Haven’t read the latest one yet. I’ll wait to comment after I read it.

How to get ahead in todays world—Write a Hate Trump Book—Must keep alive the Trump is Hitler narration! They must to impose the People’s Republic, Workers Paradise! Free College! Free Health Care! Free Jobs and Housing! Its all a fantasy embraced by the Liberals. He will sell millions—even if they all end up in the land fill. But, Beware. The Big war is coming with China and it will not be pretty—then leftists will be seen as what they are—Treasonous dogs. I only hope Trump is still alive to set things right. Maybe it will take Baron Trump to clear his father’s name.

I have watched this for the last few decades as many beloved authors have given in to the desire to proselytize in favor of the Democrat Party.

Or to go anti-Christian on the last page, after you’ve already read the book.

Shades of Sons and Lovers.

Greaney was the writer of several of the Clancy books, which I stopped reading when there was a bedroom scene between the president of the United States and his wife. That was not only disrespectful to the office of president, it was totally out of character for the great Clancy books. Can’t remember if Greaney was responsible for that one but it was in the right time frame.

Read all but the last four as of now. I liked Mitch better when he wasn't such a dick, before the Anna thing. The last one I read had him thinking about chocking Scott for allowing Geisha to leave Costa Rica. I thought that was just majorly dickheaded of the author.

Read all of them so far. Good stuff. Try the Mitch Rapp or Dewey Andreas series. You’ll enjoy them.

Diana thinks that an ordinary 350 page book is actually a novella or a "short story".

She writes Big Books, kind of like Jean Auel [Clan of the Cave Bear series].

I liked Jean Auel's books - but Diana is in another class entirely.

After Flynn died, I stopped. I just couldn’t do it.

The same happened when Robert Parker died. He had a wonderful style and his characters have stayed with me. Someone took over his contract or something- I read one. That was it. No more.

About the only series I follow any more are Kurt Schlichter’s Kelly Turnbull (Peoples Republic) series. Latest book “The Split” (#6) arrived today.

Also the Monster Hunter International series by Larry Correia.

Also, publishers have sensitivity readers these days. Sometimes in place of editors.

I had not heard of "sensitivity readers." I wonder what modern authors think of them.

Dewey was a terrific D.A. and fine governor but was a stiff as a presidential candidate. He was a very aggressive campaigner in ‘44 but listened to bad advice and campaigned as a milquetoast in ‘48. Judging by the terrible campaign he ran I don’t think he would have been much better than Truman.

I read all of Daniel Silva’s books, and I own a lot of them. After reading last year’s book, I vowed never to read another one. So this year I did not pre-order the book on my Kindle reader. I am done with him. He turned out to be a liberal with Trump Derangement Syndrome. Plus, his wife works at CNN. Farewell Gabriel.

Just like with my favorite musicians, I can ignore their lefty/liberal views as long as it doesn’t totally take over their books.

I love Julia Quinn and her Bridgerton series but I will never watch that BS tv series. I also had her liked on FB but I removed her after she posted something I disliked but I can still read her books.

Christine Feehan and Sherrilyn Kenyon are my favorites and I would rather not know their political views.

He’s dead to me too. Back in the early days of the series, Gabriel was such an interesting character.

His wife is Jamie Gangel. And I too, have loved the Allon books but decided the previous book, who’s name I cannot even remember, was my last Silva book. Silva has jumped the shark. Maybe he has enough Lefty readers to keep him afloat……maybe not. His politics were simply embarrassing in the most recent Catholic bashing novel. I was furious. And I am a Protestant.
