The 1938 Long Island Express was considered a Category 3 major storm. Aka the Great New England Hurricane, it was a lot stronger than the Henri forecast.

My Dad, born in 1930, told us he remembered that storm coming through the farm, blowing over huge maple trees. To his dying day the sound of wind whistling around the house would make him nervous.

My mother has childhood memories from the 1938 storm. Her older brother took her down to the Great South Bay where rooftops and appliances were bobbing in the water.

weatherbell shift to the west at 2PM. NHC further west and now has this a hurricane all the way to the coast. Please heed all advice as this is a dangerous situation since there could be rapid intensification tomorrow,
