Not only do they take off Columbus Day. They also take off last Friday to make it a four day weekend.
Up here in NH it is one of the busiest weekends of the year because it coincides with fall foliage season. All the hotels are full up in the White Mtns. Most are from MA.
The school systems all have a “teachers workshop” day on Friday so they can have a four day weekend.
