Conference expected to begin any moment from Oxford, Michigan
SEVERAL VIDEOS AT LINK...............................
Did she step in something there? Why is a prosecutor considering anything except for likely culpability when charging someone with a crime? It seems as if her impetus to charge was partly to frighten others. Is that under her purv?
I haven’t followed this closely, and if I’m really missing something then that’s on me.
I see this mostly as prosecution for “the sins of the fathers” (but reverse the generations). Is it illegal to have a gun in the house? Is it actually illegal to be irresponsible?
I think this is prosecution of a political crime (gun ownership) and an attempt to set a precedent to make it easier to seize guns in the future.
The kid did terrible things. Prosecute the parents? I don’t like the sound of that.
Many states have laws that require gun owners to keep firearms out of the reach of minors................
What kind of prosecutor would say “send a message to gun owners”??? The defense will have a field day with this statement.
Just because someone has a law degree doesn’t mean they learned anything in law school except how to party...........
If what I have read is true about the serious warning signs about their son that the parents had been made aware of and then they left a gun accessible to him, that is very different from …. The sins of the father….
There you go! They all need to be charged!
just common sense....
After listening to the facts she laid out, there seems to be a fair case against the parents. There’s more here than at first meets the eye. I’d say given what came out this morning, the school, administration and/or others aware of the notes the boy left on his desk, are equally responsible. They allowed him to go back to class after a meeting with parents and counselor. Inexcusable.
she is sending a message, ie, political persecution
they did not break the law
this is a legislative matter not prosecutorial
He posted threats all over social media “See you tomorrow Oxford” and “This is the gun I will use” and no one knew anything..everyone failed here, the school, the parents, everyone..the only thing this kid didnt do was announce his plan on the goodyear blimp
But not charged.
Parents do have the most risk and responsibility associated with their children. many a parent has coughed up civil damages for vandalism by the child.
There is no functional government safety-net for this sort of mental malfunction. Can't lock him up at home, can;t lock him up in proson, nut-house won't take him.
Separately, Ritaln?
It’s a mess. Major cities with homeless tents everywhere full of mentally ill and addicts, kids shooting up schools and murdering people as a way to act out. We’re in bad shape.
Ritalin? Maybe, or similar, but haven’t read anything suggesting his parents tried to get help for him.
They had better have a field day with this statement for the good of all of us.
Mass psychosis. The end of all of us by most of us.
There is certainly no shortage of loopy and irresponsible parents.
My Ritalin quesiton was mostly a passing curiosity. The past few generations have managed to screw things up royaly, first by trying to kill God.
There certainly was failed parenting and a moral responsibility of parents. I'm not sure about criminal liability.
“””The kid did terrible things. Prosecute the parents? I don’t like the sound of that”””
The prosecutor described the ‘negligence’ on the part of the parents. That negligence will be the parents undoing and they will do some hard time for being really stupid.
“”””yeah, I think if one has a “troubled” kid, they don’t leave a gun around for him to access.....”””
and it was more than ‘leaving a gun around’, they parents gave him the gun.
This is how we divert attention from our own felonious and willful incompetence in overlooking his very overt, very public threats.
