I read several years ago that Campo Flegrei has so much magma under it if it ever has a large eruption it can take out Naples.

Maybe the ash will prevent aerial maneuvers and prevent WWIII.

“Doesn’t the volcano know it is actively polluting the environment? “
Volcanic eruptions block the sun cooling the earth.

Yikes!
40-years of environmental communism was all for nothing...
Gone in one stinking belch...

Yup. One blast from a volcano spewing a cubic mile of ash and noxious gasses is far more than anything mankind could produce in a century… except from China and India.

It always has minor burps periodically. This looks like a real throat-clearing. The Catania airport will probably be closed due to the ash fallout. Hopefully that is the worst of it.

Mt Etna is no small mountain (11000 ft) but that cloud of ashes makes it look like a mole hill.Spectacular views form up on Etna. On a clear day I swear you can see one hundred miles easily.

Etna began erupting 10-23-2021.
No need to include status of this season's skiers.

And folks, we worry about the “horrible pollution” caused by that infernal, internal combustion engine*!
Those recent eruptions have put more polluted gases into the atmosphere than all *ICE ever produced.
Let that sink in and then question why we are not “capping” the volcanos of the world?

PS I and my wife, son and his wife visited Sicily in 2019.
Etna is always smoking. Sometimes a yellow sulfuric smoke but always a gray smoke. The local folks accept the danger and are happy that the area below the mountain has a soil that is good for vineyards and other crops.
I recommend the visit but not now.
