Canada Says Its Oil Could Replace U.S. Imports Of Russian Crude, All It Would Take Is Approval Of The Keystone XL Pipeline

Canada’s oil could replace American imports of Russian crude, the top officials of the oil-producing province Alberta said this weekend.

As talks about banning Russian oil imports in the United States and its European allies intensify, reports have started to emerge that the U.S. Administration could be looking to persuade Saudi Arabia to pump more oil or lift some sanctions on Venezuela to help fill the gap that a Russian oil embargo would open.

On Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the United States and its European allies were in “very active discussions” about banning the import of Russian oil over Putin’s war in Ukraine.

Even without sanctions on Russian oil, some of the biggest U.S. importers of Russian crude oil have started suspending their purchases of the commodity.

Canada has long pitched its crude as one that is not produced in rogue government regimes such as Venezuela, Iran, or Russia, and Alberta’s top officials now say that its crude could be the answer to more supply from allied nations to the United States.

Retweeting Elon Musk’s comments that “we need to increase oil & gas output immediately,” Alberta’s Energy Minister Sonya Savage said on Saturday:

“Agreed. And it should come from Alberta, home of the 3rd largest oil reserves. Alberta is the answer to US Energy security. Real emissions reductions, reliable, right next door.”

Alberta’s Premier Jason Kenney said that he and Savage would be attending the CERAWeek conference in Houston this week, where “We will be meeting with decision-makers to secure access to markets, attract job-creating investment to our province, and argue for Canadian energy to displace Russian conflict oil.”

Well that should be easy.

RE: Well that should be easy.

Not with the Biden-Harris tandem in the White House and Democrats in control of both houses.

The funny thing is - Trudeau also hates Western Canadian oil too.

What would happen if the builders just told the feds to stick it, and built the pipeline anyway? Yes it would signal the end of the rule of law, but how much rule of law is there in reality now? The left always does what it wants and eventually gets away with it, why not our side?

The xiden administration does not want more oil. They demand that we switch to electric cars and trucks, They know it all. They know what is best for us.

Politicians don’t represent us. None of them do from either party. They represent their own benefits. That is all. Nothing else but their own power and money.

I read that TC Energy is already removing the Pipeline infrastructure. Scrap metal, anyone? Anyone need some unused pumping stations? I think 7 were completed.

Then the government either presses charges and arrests people - or they simply seize and or destroy the pipeline.

Correct. They’ve decided to take their stuff and go build a different pipeline to Canada’s west coast - so the Chinese can buy the oil instead and ship it to China. The oil *will* be extracted and sold, and through our own stupidity it will be sold to our enemies. Ooopsie.

And Russia just inked a 30 year Petro deal w/China.

Been searching on the US Gov’s trip to Venezuela. Only reading bits from US. Nothing from VZ, PSUV, or Maduro.

If I were Maduro, I would demand the return of VZ diplomatic envoy Alex Saab as a goodwill gesture, then tell them to pound sand.

It is blindingly obvious, but since it does not contribute to the destruction of America, I don’t see it happening.

Unless, perhaps, the WEF and Schawb want to portray their boy trudeau in a really positive light to boost his ranking and our deep state’s among the people.

Gas prices have to come down before midterms or the ds will take a pounding.

Better still open our leases and let the oil flow in what we have.

If the U.S. wants to impose an embargo on energy produced by nations with brutal, totalitarian governments, then Canadian oil is not an option, either. Just sayin’ …

Canada’s Deep State doesn’t want cheap oil and gas anymore than any other Deep State.

“Bring back the pipeline? No! We hate Americans.” Blinken explained. Psaki nodded enthusiastically. He then went on to say, “DEATH TO AMERICA!” as he tilted his head back and ululated.

Saw something interesting about that in a WSJ article.

Source: https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-officials-meet-with-regime-in-venezuela-to-discuss-oil-exports-to-replace-russias-11646591752

(Sorta paywall, go search the article title in Google and click it, you’ll be able to get past it)

***

“But even without sanctions, Venezuela faces serious challenges to increasing oil production, said Francisco Monaldi, a Venezuelan who is director of the Latin America Energy Program at Rice University’s Baker Institute.

There have been no new wells drilled in Venezuela for months, he said, and to reach significant production levels Venezuela would need investments of $12 billion a year for five years. The country that was essential in providing crude to the Allied effort in World War II now pays down debt with oil to China. And Mr. Monaldi said its production is a “drop in the bucket in the world oil market.”

“This won’t help ease the pain at the pump for American consumers,” Mr. Monaldi said of the possible lifting of oil sanctions.”

***

Bidengov may have made an initial assumption on how easy it would be to restore based on an overly optimistic prediction Chevron made, also noted in the article.

***

If there is sanctions relief, Chevron, PDVSA’s main Western joint venture partner, would be a big winner. The company would be able to restore up to 150,000 barrels a day in six weeks, people familiar with the firm’s operations say. Repsol of Spain and ONGC of India could add more, those people said.

***

Yeah, I don’t see that happening. A friend of mine in Honduras keeping an eye on Venezuela for obvious reason reported that they were in for a big surprise. “...please sit and laugh as I know for a fact those refineries [and other oilfield gear including wells and pumps] haven’t been well maintained since sanctions, which is why Venezuela was importing oil [and fuel].”

I went and checked - yup, Venezuela was actually importing condensate, light crude oil, gasoline, diesel and more, while attempting to export their heavy crude, diluted with the condensate and light crude.

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/venezuela-imports-condensate-boost-oil-blending-documents-2021-07-22/

They’re not actually successfully refining anything, and heavy crude is going to be hard for the US to refine.

I am sure it could...take years to do it but in the end, it could.

You still have to get around FJB and Kamelho.
