Air defenses respond to missile attack on Damascus

Syria accused Israel of launching missiles on an area south of Damascus on Monday evening, targeting the suburb of Saida Zaynab.

Air defenses were activated around 11:18 pm on Monday in response to “hostile missiles” detected approaching Damascus, the state news agency SANA reported. State TV described the attack as “Israeli aggression.”

The missiles came from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights and “most” were intercepted by air defenses, SANA said, citing military sources. Eyewitnesses reported seeing several explosions in the night sky over the Syrian capital.

At least one missile got through, however, and caused property damage. There were no reports of casualties as of yet.

If Israel doesn’t have one, they’ll just make one up.

Realistically, I don’t think Syria is a country. It’s a region where bad actors can survive and thrive and I suspect that if Syria could kick them out, they would. I’m sure that by this time the Syrian government, and especially its people, would like nothing better than to get back to being civilized, with jobs, grocery stores and cinemas. But ever evil doer in the world has taken up residence and their target is Israel. So, Israel strikes at them to keep them from getting to the point where they can actually do harm to Israel. I’m pretty sure Israel is tired of it too.

Turkey has doing military operations in northern Syria lately. Syria needs some sympathy from other Muslim nations, but will not get that against the supposed head of the old Ottoman Empire when Muslims all over the world have wet dreams about a return of the caliphate.

However, Syria can get tons of sympathy from fellow Muslim nations by claiming big bad Israel attacked them.
