Well, like it or not, the protection of a President, a Supreme Court Justice, even a Member of Congress, should be a priority and providing it does not take away anything from us hoi polloi. If a man had shown up with a gun at Justice Sotomayor's house, I am sure Red Sandy would be screaming that the Justice had almost died and demand that Congress stay in session over the weekend, and maybe all night, to provide more protection.
