The 1994 AWB defined an AW as a semi auto greater than rimfire, accepting a detachable magazine and having two or more of the disqualified features. Select fire medium caliber weapons are known as assault rifles by the general community. This version is about the same as the 94 version, but it doesn’t mention bayonet lugs....

I think the fact that this one covers rimfires is a pretty significant difference. My wife has a Ruger 10-22 carbine with an adjustable stock. Or, as TeamD calls it, a battlefield .22. They want to ban it because it's too suitable for militia service.
