SSI is NOT funded from Social Security coffers. It’s funded out of the general fund. It IS ADMINISTERED by SSA, however.
Precisely so. RSDI (Retirement, Survivor, and Disability Insurance) and SSI (Supplemental Security Income) are both administered by the Social Security Administration, but they are NOT the same program, at all. Different rules, different funding sources, etc.
The best explanation I've ever heard is that it's like a college that has a football team and a basketball team. They're both (insert mascot name here,) both are sports, the idea in both is to score more points than the other team, but there the similarities end. The rules for football and basketball are completely different. So it is with RSDI and SSI. SSA administers both programs, but the funding and the legal rules for each program are completely different.
SSI is nothing but a welfare scheme
Again, precisely so. It's a welfare program, administered by SSA, for people who are blind, disabled, or over age 65, without regard to their work history.
"Disabled' applies to most democrat pet victim groups... drug addicts, alcoholics, criminals. There's rumors half of Chicago's South Side collects disability.
