Darrell Brooks faces 76 charges, including six homicide counts, in the Nov. 21 tragedy in Waukesha. A man accused of killing six people and injuring dozens of others when he allegedly drove his SUV through a Wisconsin Christmas parade last year gave a tearful opening statement Thursday as he defended himself at trial but didn’t outline any defense theories that might save him from prison.
Darrell Brooks faces 76 charges, including six homicide counts, in the Nov. 21 tragedy in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha. Investigators maintain he drove into the parade route after fleeing a domestic disturbance with his ex-girlfriend, though police were not pursuing him at the time.
Brooks took the unusual step of dismissing his public defenders just days before his trial began this month, electing to represent himself. At times, Brooks has refused to recognize his own name and become so disruptive that Waukesha County Circuit Judge Jennifer Dorow ordered him removed from the courtroom. He frequently has muttered under his breath about the trial not being fair and objected to almost every question prosecutors have asked of witnesses, usually to no avail.

The perp should be strung up on a gallows in front of the court building immediately after the guilty verdict is read.

Killers who opt to defend themselves deserve what they get. Probably thinking he can fake insanity, go to a hospital instead of prison. Won’t work.

I just watched his opening statement.
He cried, spoke very slowly and stammered with no actual points to make.
And then appeal based upon having ineffective counsel.
He thought they were mostly Republicans - so he hit the gas.
He was full of tears for himself during his opening statement. Turned those off pretty quick and oozed arrogance right after.
This dirtbag assaulted his ex girlfriend right before this incident. He was pissed off and decided somebody is gonna pay.
And the defendant sits in court wearing a huge face diaper...this AFTER he was tested for COVID and found not to have it.
If I were the judge, I’d make him remove it. All the witnesses have the right to see his face.
