DeSantis endorses O'Dea in Colorado Senate race, bucking Trump
DC Examiner ^ | 10/23/2022 | David Drucker

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is recording a robocall for underdog Senate contender Joe O’Dea, a boost for the Colorado Republican after former President Donald Trump urged grassroots conservatives to abandon his campaign.

“Hello this is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. America needs strong leadership and desperately. That’s why I’m endorsing Joe O’Dea for U.S. Senate. Colorado, please vote for Joe O’Dea,” DeSantis says in the robocall, a recording of which was provided to the Washington Examiner on Sunday by the O’Dea campaign. “I’ve watched Joe from a distance. And I’m impressed.”

In endorsing O’Dea, DeSantis is charting a course separate from Trump in the midterm elections and stoking speculation the two Republican heavyweights are on a collision course in the upcoming 2024 GOP presidential primary. Just days earlier, the former president lashed out at O’Dea, calling him a “RINO,” which stands for “Republican in Name Only,” and criticizing him for speaking openly about their disagreements.

Running in a blue state that rarely elects Republicans statewide and trailing Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) in public opinion polls despite a favorable political environment, O’Dea’s strategy of distancing himself from Trump and taking centrist positions on certain issues is sensible. Bennet led O’Dea 49.5% to 42% in the RealClearPolitics average and has topped his Republican challenger in all six of the most recent surveys.

DeSantis can and should build his own identity as more than a Trump yesman. You can’t build the future of the entire US conservative movement on a guy knocking on 80. Even if Trump does get reelected theres only so much he can do in 4 years. Other people will have to take over from there.

You are here, in the belly of the Trump cult. You MUST support everything the man does, or you are a traitor.

Except last night the crowd broke out into the national anthem…and he didn’t remove his hat while it was sung.

So…I am confused.

Blatant disloyalty to Trump - and support for a shameless RINO. Not a good look for DeSantis imho.

Totally agree

"O’Dea has distanced himself from Trump on matters relating to the 2020 election and has expressed regret that Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court."

Folks, Those are a couple of specific issues to take a stand on. Pretty defining.

I agree. If DeSantis is "impressed" by this then he gets to demerits from me.

If we don’t purge the traitor RINOs no electoral victory will translate into a change in our despotic government.

Come on, man. Disloyalty to Trump? It's not about Trump.

Oh if it's not about Trump does that mean DeSantis and you support O'Dea on the issues? O'dea wants to pass a law giving a national right to abortion. No thanks.

If DeSantis wants to break from Trump, doing it for a pro-abortion liberal is a funny message to send.

"Next month I’m going to vote for every candidate with a “R” after his name even if I have to hold my nose to do so."

Because you are either stupid or masochistic? When the RINO's put the knife in your back don't say that you were not warned.

Never trumpers relish the ability to abort babies. I mean they act just like babies at the expense of the country. Just look at the wreckage they’ve caused due to their staying home or voting for an alt candidate. They’ve essentially destroyed what was left of this country.
I loathe them.

The media certainly likes to continue to try to drive a wedge between Trump and DeSantis and their supporters. The left knows if those two team up they will be a formidable duo that would be hard to beat. I hope Trump and DeSantis realize that and I wish everyone could see that and not take the bait.

wait wait wait. Trump himself is a lot softer on the rainbow mafia than many other republicans to the point where the US continued its campaign of bullying other countries about this topic under his watch. And the same people who turned a blind eye to this are giving DeSantis the third degree for choosing pragmatism over complete purity?

It is a very curious move. I can see the logic if O’Dea was likely to win but he’s almost certainly going to lose so l am not sure what DeSantis is up to here.

Wife and I already voted.

Instead of "voting for every candidate WITH and R we opted to vote AGAINST every candidate with a D!

Something to consider if it at all nausiates you, as it did us to vote "for" Republicans.

Yes, but O’Dea is a leaky vessel for him to cast his lot with.
