As rising fuel costs threaten the political hopes of Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections, an ominous chorus of online chatter among domestic extremists in the dark corners of the Internet advocating attacks on critical infrastructure across the nation may pose an even greater threat to U.S. consumers.
Newsweek has obtained two documents that offer an insight into the scope of the threat, including reports of several actual attacks that have happened in past few months.
The first is a corporate intelligence security memo detailing at least 15 instances over the course of just over a year showing suspected extremists openly threatening and calling for acts of sabotage against energy sites, especially electricity substations, but also including other targets such as cell towers and pipelines.
The material included documents that could serve to help groups and individuals in carrying out such attacks, including maps, manuals and instructions on the vulnerabilities of electricity infrastructure and readily accessible methods to disrupt their operation. Those behind the posts, which were shared across various online platforms and chat rooms, expressed ties to a number of anti-government ideologies, mostly far-right and neo-Nazi beliefs, but also including eco-militancy and at least one user who shared messaging supportive of the Islamic State militant group(ISIS).
This report went beyond simply exposing the desires of those seeking to do harm to also include recent notable incidents of groups or individuals acting out on such fantasies. This included an act of vandalism causing "fairly significant" damage at a transformer servicing the Keystone pipeline in South Dakota and a shooting that caused a chemical spill at a Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) site in California, both of which occurred this past July. In March, thousands of customers in southern Oklahoma were reportedly left without power after bullets riddled a transformer site,

Now for the bias here. The only people I have ever known that would attack the energy sector have been the eco-terrorists. It has been far-left eco-freaks for decades, since the 1980's it has eco-terrorists attacking the energy sector, nuclear plants etc.
If we have bad DVE's doing this stuff, I might be surprised. And I think much of this article is hiding that we are at war. We have an open border and it wouldn't be a far cry to think some of this chatter might be Russian or Chinese actors masquerading as domestics. This seems far more logical in the current scenario than anything.
But leave it to democrats to not let a crisis go to waster during an election cycle.
BUT, I will re-emphasize my point here. They are admitting these events were not unfortunate accidents, but actually attacks on our infrastructure. They just might not want to admit it might be foreign agents.
Trial balloon.
The biggest extremists is the fraudulently instslled pefo in the white house.
Just wait until all those thousands of terrorists that have crossed the southern border get set up to do their bit.
I can’t understand why at least one Congressman will say a word of warning of the impending peril. Just cannot understand it.
It’s Newsweek praying for a false flag. Even if there is one, I don’t think it will work. People are catching on to the left’s bs.
Trying to pin these on the “far right” is pathetic. They are lefty eco-terrorists.
If you haven’t already, you should read, “Day of Wrath”, a short less than 200-page book written William Forstchen who also wrote “One Second After”, it goes into detail how a group of ISIS terrorist infiltrated the USA and had carefully planned teams to attack elementary schools all around the country to inflict maximum damage, all for shock value.
The point is, it would not be difficult with an open Southern Border to infiltrate the USA will teams of trained terrorists who could attack oil refineries and other critical infrastructure and cripple the USA for an extended period time creating maximum chaos.
I think it was 2009, someone cut fibers in the South San Francisco and San Jose areas the same night that disrupted 911 traffic and the internet. As someone who used to work for AT&T, this bothered me as even us workers would not know which fibers and what locations and what kind of circuits they would be one to do such an act. The individual(s) who did this would have to have circuit information, cable maps, and engineering records. And they would need other knowledge because the cables were cut in manholes. Certain manholes have “dead air” in them, meaning unless you have purged them with air blowers you could die due to lack of oxygen. So an individual would have to wear some kind of breathing apparatus. And the manholes were both in places that were dark and not covered with any security or video cameras. So the area would have had to have been carefully checked out. So this was a complicated attack. I don’t know who has the time, money, expertise and patience to do that. Unless it was something done by a foreign actor or our own agencies.
Why the big conspiracy talk??
Because you can’t have organs of internal security
without an internal threat...
Attacks on our Energy Infrastructure start with Keystone Pipeline and continues with drilling/permitting freezes, and much, much, more. Our government has even graduated to taking out gas pipelines in Europe. I have to assume tankers are probably next, since the Russians will be insuring their own deliveries starting in December.
Conspiracy to overthrow National Security and a whole lot of other stuff.
Correct.
That is what this article sort of exposes too. Whoever these chatter groups are, have the maps etc.
It really is surprising that they have let this stuff hit main stream media, but anything is possible.
Projection News Wolf: "The sheep are planning an attack."
Docile Sheep: "What the crap? No we're not."
You make a convincing argument for an inside job, though.
Excellent investigative thinking.

I like how the “white supremacists” are in top shape, have tight haircuts, military age males, and wear khakis.
Most racist white people don’t march, don’t wear khakis, aren’t in good shape, drink beer, and stay away from blacks and Jews.

FBI investigating damage to substation for Keystone Pipeline

Here you see they were investigating this as an act of VANDALSIM, not terrorism.
My point being, all these incidents this past year with everything from utilities to food production facilities...it ain’t conspiracy stuff anymore.
