The attacker of Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, has been named by sources close to the investigation.
The sources identified the suspect as Berkeley resident David Depape.
San Francisco police said that at approximately 2:27 a.m. on Friday morning, officers responded to the 2600 block of Broadway in the Pacific Heights neighborhood for a reported home break-in. The suspect was taken into custody.
According to the Associated Press, Mr. Pelosi was attacked with a hammer but was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery, according to Drew Hammill, spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi.
The motive is under investigation, Hammill said in a statement. Speaker Pelosi was not at home at the time of the incident.
Mr. Pelosi was severely beaten with the hammer during the attack and suffered blunt force injuries to his head and body, according to the AP. The assailant reportedly targeted the Pelosi home; the attack was not random.
“The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time,” Hammill said in a statement.
A San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson said, “SFFD was dispatched to this incident for a medical emergency. Two adult subjects were transported to local hospital(s). SFPD will have further info.”
The intruder who attacked Mr. Pelosi in the couple’s San Francisco home confronted him, shouting, “Where is Nancy, where is Nancy?,” according to a person briefed on the situation who spoke to AP on condition of anonymit

This whole thing reminds me of when Harry Reid walked into his shower door. It was near the end of his career as a Senator. Maybe the powers that be have decided it is time for Nancy to go but could not find a way to get to her so they went after her husband.

I’m not ready to conclude it was politically motivated. Could have been an associate or former-associate of both Paul and Nancy.
Just because he says “Where’s Nancy?” does not mean he was looking for her. Perhaps it was like “’Where’s Nancy?’ Where is she, huh? Bet you never thought I’d be smart enough to actually figure out that when she is away your security is away too. So, now Paul let’s talk about that bad deal you talked me into that went south for me but you made millions...”
I mean, Paul Pelosi and his wife Nancy probably have a lot of former-associates who have nonpolitical issues with them.
Maybe Paul got in a couple of hits before the goon grabbed the weapon.
