Nearly 90 percent of Nassau County suspects freed without bail in ‘dramatic spike’: stats

Close to 90% of suspects arrested in Nassau County between July and September were freed without bail — mostly in assault and larceny cases — up 2% compared with the previous quarter, startling new statistics show.

GOP Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman revealed the latest crime data at a rally and press conference Thursday in Manhattan.

He was joined by local law enforcement leaders including Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr., Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison and Paul Digiacomo, head of a police detectives’ union.

“In Nassau County, what we’ve seen is a dramatic spike in people who are let out without having to post bail,” Blakeman told The Post before the start of the Midtown rally. “And then they get rearrested for crimes like carrying an illegal firearm or weapon, for larceny, for burglary.

“These crimes keep going up and people keep getting out and committing crime after crime after crime,” he added.

“What’s really depressing is we have shop owners who don’t even call the police anymore because the shoplifting is so bad; the police are there every day — it’s bad for business.”

A bail reform crime report for the third quarter of 2022, covering the period between July 1 and Sept. 30, indicated out of 3,410 suspects arrested, 3,015 — more than 88% — were let go without bail.

The report released Thursday also showed that of all those arrested and then freed, about 9.5% were rearrested.

Blakeman called on state legislators to change laws that he said “give more rights to criminals than to victims.” He specifically singled out the state’s cashless bail law, which eliminates money bail for most misdemeanors and non-violent felonies.

The Left is creating a void which will be filled by a star chamber.

In regard to bail, do state judges still have the discretion to decide if someone is a threat to society or is a high risk to flee prosecution?

I do not recall reading even one judicial complaint about our new Soros justice system, which is kind of shocking.

Jails cost money.

And the people who work in them tend not to vote Deep State.

No bail is a two-fer for Deep State.

2% doesn't seem much of a spike.

Absent one particular demographic, crime stats in the US would be comparable to Scandinavia.

Libtards don't wanna hear it due to their having divorced reality.

“These crimes keep going up and people keep getting out and committing crime after crime after crime,” he added.
And those are just the crimes they know about.

I got to wondering how many of those given cashless bail releases show up in court. Can't find much, but back in 2019 the commies at the "Brennan Justice Center" presented one of the stupidest statistical lies to promote the cashless bail law that went into effect in 2020:
New York City instituted an alternative-to-bail project in 2016, called the Supervised Release Program. It gives judges the discretion to release defendants unable to afford bail, under the condition that they periodically meet with social workers and complete regular phone check-ins. By March 2019, the program had delivered an 88 percent court appearance outcome, comparable to results of a defendant being released on their own recognizance or bail. How Cash Bail Works (Brennan Center for Justice)
Bogus statistic about an entirely different program from what's now being implemented: these defendants were required to "meet with social workers and complete regular phone check-ins" -- uh, and they still got only 88% court appearances? Worse, they're comparing it to those released "on their own recognizance or bail" -- clearly those released "on their own recognizance" prior to cashless bail were reviewed by a magistrate for flight risk or danger to the community. The rest, who were on bail had the proper incentive to show up: money down. So they're compared completely different scenarios to promote "judicial reform".

The only thing recently published by them (Mar/22) on cashless bail is a pathetic screed denying any connection between rising crime and the cashless bail law: The Facts on Bail Reform and Crime Rates in New York State which claims, "There is no clear connection between recent crime increases and the bail reform law enacted in 2019, and the data does not currently support further revisions to the legislation."

Pathetic.

I got caught up years ago with the court system...took me YEARS to recover. The clowns I met while being detained didn’t have to provide for themselves on the outside civilian world as they or there better half was a welfare recipient and there stay at the jail was a mere hiccup to them....I was on my own and asked no one to get me out of the mess I got myself into. This is the end result of generational welfare and handouts. When you ostracize yourself from society because of crime and you have to rely on ONLY yourself you tend to see the light and amend your ways rather than continue to be a criminal...I will always be embarrassed for having to be punished but I certainly did hear God when he put me where I had to be because of my own actions.

The godless Democrats want anarchy in the streets so they can institute martial law.

Because releasing criminals, like John Fetterman in Pennsylvania wants to do, makes absolutely no other sense.
