Tina Kotek wins Oregon governor’s race, fending off strongest Republican bid in a decade

Democrat Tina Kotek has won the race for Oregon governor, defeating Republican Christine Drazan.

It was a hard-fought and expensive win by Democrats, who have a huge party registration advantage in Oregon but faced strong headwinds this year amid voter frustration at problems including homelessness, violent crime and lackluster delivery of government programs and services.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, Kotek was ahead of Drazan by 30,000 votes, the state’s tally showed. And Multnomah County had yet to tabulate results from 80,000 ballots it has logged as received by 10 a.m. Wednesday, state and county websites showed. With Multnomah voters favoring Kotek over Drazan by a better than 70% to 30% margin, those untallied votes in Oregon’s biggest, bluest county can be expected to add another 30,000 votes to Kotek’s lead, The Oregonian/OregonLive projects.

“Oregon is a vote-by-mail pioneer”..and your point is...?? Oh wait...I’ll bet you think all them mail in ballots are fake or something right???

I voted that way in Oregon for over 8 yeas with no problem. So the mail in ballot is just another excuse for either a bad candidate or frankly the voters just didn’t like the other candidates....it happens and it’s no conspiracy.

The Multnomah machine waited to see how many they needed.

Heard exactly the same thing from brother who lives in Oregon. As I pointed out to him, just because it is convenient for you doesn't mean that it is a secure voting method. It just isn't despite the safeguards because they can be easily circumvented.

Any safeguard can be circumvented....doesn’t mean it happened so I don’t buy the “fraud’ angle of mail in ballots.

Wayne wasn’t all that party oriented. He spent some time on each side of the aisle, and even a little bit on a chair he brought himself in the middle.

Hatfield and Packwood roughly cancelled eachother out.

Hatfield was gay, but kept it in the closet and managed to maintain a moral compass. By far the best Senator Oregon has had since Morse—but given that the only other pub other than Packwood was a cousin of the Udalls, perhaps slightly to the right of Mitt—not a particularly high bar to clear. Better than your average Mormon Republican Senator.

Smith was better than Packwood.

I was trying to find out if I could say anything good about Packwood, but the best I can come up with is apparently only the good die young.

At least he brought some money from New York into Oregon. There. That’s something.

One of my first votes was against Packwood in a primary and perhaps he is responsible for me opting to vote third party or write in when the Pub makes me want to puke. That said, I’d vote for Hatfield in a heartbeat unless he was running against Morse or McCall.

Hatfield was gay

So goes the rumor.

Smith was better than Packwood.

I suppose he would have to be, but he was the one who was a cousin of the Udalls. I don't think Packwood was a Mormon.

The I5 corridor and homeless camps dictate everything in Oregon. They also passed a law that any walkouts to avoid quorum are ineligible to run for office. And looks like one of the strictest gun laws will pass.

And they have a helluva lot of plans. “Climate change” laws. End gas powered cars. Universal healthcare for all, including illegals. Kotek is a straight communist.

Every elections since it went to vote by mail only in Oregon the Democrats have been winning every elections by stopping the counting process when they are ahead. They steal all the elections in Oregon now. The house and senate used to be controlled by the Republican except for the governorship but not anymore. Oregon just like CA and WA are gone.

So goes the rumor.

I know some one who worked for himknew the family personally, and is able to evaluate his strengths and weaknesses fairly.

Smith was LDS, not Packwood.

If my Mother is correct, Packwood vaguely claimed to be Catholic, alas (Mom and I are both Catholic-—and of course despise Packwood nearly as much as the Kennedys). I believe Hatfield was Baptist—and for a Baptist did damn good.
