Supreme Court allows release of Trump's tax records to House Democrats

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected former President Donald Trump's last-ditch plea to block the release of his tax records to House Democrats, paving the way for their possible disclosure to the lawmakers.

The decision by the court in a brief order noting no dissenting votes means the committee can try to access the documents ahead of the Republican take-over of the House in January. The committee, however, has not said how quickly it expects to get the documents. Upon taking control, Republicans are expected to withdraw the request.

Earlier this month, Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily blocked the Ways and Means panel from accessing Trump’s tax records while the court decided how to act on Trump’s request.

Trump, who, unlike other recent presidents, refused to make his tax returns public amid scrutiny of his business affairs, turned to the justices after an appeals court in Washington refused to intervene. The court has recently rejected similar requests from Trump.

The former president's lawyers contested the House Ways and Means Committee’s assertion that it needed the information to probe how the IRS conducts the auditing process for presidents, saying it did not stand up to scrutiny.

House Democrats, as well as the Biden administration, urged the court to reject Trump's request, saying their demand for the tax documents reflected a valid legislative purpose.

Wow, so no wonder Hunter is desperate to be offered a plea on tax evasion and FARA violations.

It will be interesting to watch the 118th Congress reveal how the offshore money flowed to 10% Big Guy.

Hunter's preference was no-limit plastic tied to Chinese and Shanghai 'banks', and surely Joe was grifted to some degree in the same manner, but what's going to be compelling is when Congress subpoenas Brother Jim Biden, who if you read Hunter's emails, is Joe's capo more than consigliere.

What is maddening is that every intelligence agency in the world knows every Biden illicit transaction -- when/where/who/how much -- down to the penny, and the Chinese use the threat of US to keep the Bidens in line.

Interesting timing

Incoming House Republicans are showing their hand, as usual, and saying that they’ll be going after the Biden’s.

SCOTUS then says that democrats can go after Pres Trump.

What happens Jan 21/22 when Republicans run all the committees.

And to think, the newly appointed SC worked with Lerner at the IRS.

They can do that already; by law, the Ways and Means committee may see any American’s tax return. Trump just refused to turn them over.

“ Tyranny.”
*************

Well, this will SET A PRECEDENT that will require Biden to turn over his tax information next year when Republicans control the House and begin following the breadcrumbs that start with Hunters laptop. Any legal challenge by Biden should be immediately dismissed due to this PRECEDENT!

Congress has no right to use them to investigate a crime. They only get them for study to determine needs to create law.
This is tyranny.

Would it really be a waste of time. Who paid the bills for Joe Biden’s mansions? Who paid Joe Biden’s bills. See, if you don’t declare “GIFTED” money it’s tax evasion if that amount exceeds 15K. Now, Hunter Biden COULD have been lying when he said he was paying all of Joe Biden’s bills.......but IF he was telling the truth, then Joe Biden did tax evasion. Simple case for the DOJ and IRS. Who paid the maintenance bills for Joe’s estates?

Oh....I forgot. If Hunter was paying the bills with money he received via a foreign country during Joe Biden’s time while he was in office....well....that entirely new animal.

You’re correct, Trump fought it because I don’t think it’s ever been done before and now that the Supreme Court has said it’s okay, if Biden’s records were subpoenaed, he would not have much a legal argument to fight it.

Does anyone think at this point, with these tax returns being passed around by other “investigative bodies” as well as the IRS itself over the years , there is anything worthwhile in there? It passes the leak test. There have been no leaks…. Just like the mar a lago documents…. Crickets so nothing burger. Trumps fights just to fight. Doesnt mean hes hiding anything.

I want to see the tax records of everybody in Congress and the Supreme Court, then.

Roberts' tax returns should be interesting. Let's subpoena them for the past 20 years.

A bit different. Democrats are using this as a political weapon against a citizen to fabricate crimes against that person. Roe V Wade corrected a bad judicial fiat for something that didn’t exist and sent it back to the states to sort out.

Agreed...but it also gives them more meat to chew on. They can criticize a thousand ways; doesn’t give much to charity, or his charitable donations are only to ‘escape’ from pay his ‘fair share’, etc.. - they’ll make it so he can’t win either way.

That said, Rachael Madcow generated a frenzy when she got ahold of some of his tax returns, only to report the bombshell that PDJT paid ~$36M in taxes!! lol. It was such a let down for them - but of course they hope for something different to cling to.

“No Standing” Roberts? Yeah. Good luck with that.

Should Roberts contest a subpoena of his tax records, he cannot be the judge of his own case. He would need to recuse himself, or face impeachment.
