When Trump Promises to Be a Tyrant, Take Him at His Word. American patriots do not recommend the suspension of the United States Constitution.
National Review ^ | December 5, 2022 | Charles Cooke

Posted on 12/05/2022 1:17:32 PM PST by karpov

Once again, Donald Trump has proposed dismantling the United States Constitution. “Do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION?” Trump asked on TruthSocial Saturday. “A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.”

The answer to Trump’s question is “neither.” The response to his declaration is, “No, it does not.” The conclusion one must draw is that the 45th president of the United States has lost whatever was left of his mind.

That Trump probably cannot achieve his stated aims here remains spectacularly beside the point. During the closing days of the 2020 election, I wrote repeatedly about the seriousness of Joe Biden’s refusal to reject his party’s growing demand to “pack” — i.e. destroy — the United States Supreme Court. Not once did I receive an email from a Trump voter telling me that my alarm was misplaced on the grounds that, in all likelihood, Biden would not have the votes to do it. Back then — and rightly so — the mere fact that Biden was entertaining the idea was deemed instructive: “When people tell you what they want to do with power,” my correspondents invariably opined, “you should believe them. Joe Biden cannot be trusted with power.”

Well, so it is with Donald Trump once again. When Trump declared his 2024 candidacy last month, he implicitly asked us to judge him and his plans for the country, and, eventually, to compare those plans to those that are on offer from other hopefuls. And so we must — including when he talks about the election of 2020.

Yeah, most of the attacks on Trump have been BS. But you can’t simply suspend the Constitution to deal with an election question.

Trump was basically saying: what’s the point even having laws if this kind of collusion and media bias have free reign to decide elections.

More blatant intellectual dishonesty from the left.

Correct me if I’m wrong. And FONR.

The remedy is clearly spelled out in the Constitution, impeachment and removal from office upon conviction.

Horse sh!t. You are outrageous. I can’t speak for everyone here but I can speak for myself. If the parties were switched what happened to Trump in 2020 happened to Hillary or any other Democrat I WOULD BE ON THEIR SIDE TOO.

Please quote the section of the Constitution that states: “cheating negates and renders void the laws and even the Constitution.”

The country is run by tyrants right now and National Review approves.

Think about that.

So this is the dilemma. They rather openly steal an election. Trump expresses himself badly. Biden is a usurper. Trump expresses himself badly.

A GOP that should be outraged instead sits silent, hoping that with Trump out of the way maybe they can slip into the White House. Remember how after 2020 they kept saying loudly that we’re really going to get them in 2022… and now we’re really going to get them in 2024. As if DNC won’t simply replay the same tactics again and again ad infinitum…

IOW, you can’t quote the section of the Constitution that states “fraud negates constitutional certification.”
All you’re doing is imagining things that aren’t so. Very much like those emanatings penumbras.

No, I’m saying your remedy is unconstitutional.

But it was a stupid thing to say.

Only if one is so politically incorrect as to challenge the result. Charges of serious, and often obvious election violations emerged before, during and immediately after the election. The liberal mantra from the outset was that any claim was a falsehood, a lie.

There is no one with the authority to simply overturn an election and appoint the losing candidate President.

That, in the most polite sense is a myth - until the moment the gavel fell on the Jan 6 Special Session there was an abundance of Constitutional and statutory authority for the Congress to correct what it found to be "irregularities" and certify the candidate who received valid certificates. There was a reason for the Jan6 riot.

Lincoln suspended the Constitution, other Presidents probably have suspended parts of it especially during times of war, Woodrow Wilson and FDR.

There is no provision in the Constitution for a contested, stolen election, no redo or judicial redress.
