Again watch the video objectivley.
What makes you think I haven't? I have no sympathy for armed robbers. None whatsoever. The deceased fooled around and found out. Case closed.
As I have stated previously, there is a big difference between the rules of engagement that I hope I would observe and that I would advise to others, and the conduct I would tolerate as a juror.
And although your sudden dragging of cops into the discussion is a red-herring, I will add this much: I do hold them to a higher standard, particularly when they're on duty.
And I reiterate: your willingness to hang a felony conviction on this fellow is disgusting and absolutely repulsive. Shame on you.
You haven't watched the entire video, have you?
Yes, I know that many police shootings involve several officers simultaneously emptying their guns into an armed suspect.
The number of shots is not the issue. The issue is that you are not legally allowed to shoot after the threat has been neutralized. And after the 6th shot, the perp is face down and motionless.
At this point its a perfect shooting.
Hoever, when Hero walks up to the perp, leans down and shoots some more, picks up the perp's gun, then caps him one last time in the back of the head with the muzzle of his gun less than a foot away from Perp's head - Yeah, Hero is going to be in for some legal trouble for that last shot.
And I don't blame you if you missed some of my other posts in this thread, but I have said that I personally would not convict Hero if I were on his jury. But most prosecutors are going to put him on trial for that 9th shot.
Could be considered assisted suicide.
My wife asked a police officer about what she should do if she had to use a gun on somebody who was attacking her. The police officer said empty the clip into them and make sure they’re dead. If they survive, there’s a good chance the peep is going to sue your ass into the ground...and win.
That's easy. The state has not presented ANY evidence that this person is guilty of anything beyond a reasonable doubt. So, no, absolutely not.
Thank you for the video.
I was thinking about that 9th shot, hoping that it looked like it could have been accidental.
No. It is an aimed shot. The shooter is standing there with the robbers gun in his hand, and he extends his arm and takes a last aimed shot at the robber’s head.
It is hard to justify that.
Completely irrelevant, and a red herring. Police are charged with arresting suspects and bringing them to trial. We the People are not. I will ignore any further reference to police in this context, because it is a worthless distraction.
Thank you.
My older brother was my hero when I was but a lad. When he was about 65 years old he worked nights at a gas station. One night two men came in to rob the station, instead the murdered him and took no money.
So, I say rob anywhere and risk being executed on the spot.
Several years later the police had the man they wanted in my brothers murdered cornered and a basement, he was carrying the same gun he murdered my brother with. Rather then go to prison he turned the gun on himself and died in that basement thinking of my brother no doubt,
It is not a red herring. You just don’t like it. It will be interesting to see what happens. Like I said it looks like a bad shooting to me. But I may be wrong and the DA may not choose to prosecute. I guess we will see. I’d love for a trained cop to weigh in on this.
A couple have been, on this very thread.
You just don’t know who they are.
Ok...
Will take your word for it...๐
It absolutely is a red herring, and no: I don’t like red herrings. They’re illogical.
Like I said, it looks like a bad guy who should have been in prison getting eliminated to me.
I hope that if (God forbid) you’re ever forced to use deadly force in self-defense and you end up on trial, that you get someone like me on your jury.
“For myself, I would not want to be having to defend any of the last 5 shots, though itโs easy after the fact to be an armchair tactician.”
^^^ You are right. The last five shots are a progressive DA’s dream — put a law abiding citizen in jail who carries and uses guns but who, in a crisis situation, probably went overboard in self-defense. You win a lot of votes and and local TV let’s you yammer on endlessly about racism and gun violence. IMO, the shooter will almost certainly be charged.
“Given the situation and the former and the state where this occurred, leniency will likely rightly be applied.”
It’s in the city of Houston. I wouldn’t expect reasonable judgments out of their DA’s for a white on black shooting where the black guy had a toy gun. Lots of room to run at trial with those facts.
The last shot looks really bad though.
I can easily justify it in a moral sense-—armed robber -deserves on the spot execution every time if caught in the act.
Laws should be changed to reflect that.
“There was a case just like this in Oklahoma ( I think) a few years ago.
Not sure of the specifics, but a druggist shot an armed robber one or two too many times after he was incapacitated on the floor. That druggist is doing time.”
Not exactly like this.
“Confronted by two holdup men, pharmacist Jerome Ersland pulled a gun, shot one of them in the head and chased the other away. Then, in a scene recorded by the drugstore’s security camera, he went behind the counter, got another gun, and pumped five more bullets into the wounded teenager as he lay on the floor.”
That last shot is problematic. Likely the fellow was already dead.
