London (AFP) – British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak defended Brexit as a "huge opportunity" on Tuesday, as the UK marked three years since leaving the EU amid economic crisis and a growing public sense of "Bregret".

On January 31, 2020, the United Kingdom ended 47 years of belonging to the European Union and its predecessor, the EEC, soon after Boris Johnson won a resounding election victory for the Conservatives with his promise to "get Brexit done".

An Ipsos poll last week found 45 percent of people in Britain think Brexit is going worse than they expected.

"In the three years since leaving the EU, we've made huge strides in harnessing the freedoms unlocked by Brexit to tackle generational challenges," Sunak said in a statement released for the anniversary.

"I'm determined to ensure the benefits of Brexit continue to empower communities and businesses right across the country," the prime minister said.

Sunak called Brexit a "huge opportunity to deliver" on his priorities of growth, employment and social mobility.

"Today's Brexit anniversary marks three years of political mayhem and economic calamity," a columnist wrote in left-wing broadsheet The Guardian.

Even right-wing broadsheet The Sunday Telegraph wrote there was "a growing sense of 'Bregret' taking hold in Britain", questioning: "Is there really much cause for celebration?"

Economic woes A study by Bloomberg Economics published on Tuesday said: "Brexit is costing the UK economy 100 billion pounds a year ($124 billion), with the effects spanning everything from business investment to the ability of companies to hire workers."

The Office of Budget Responsibility predicts that the new trading relationship between the EU and UK will reduce long-term productivity by four percent, as compared to staying in the EU.

There are plenty of other reasons which have nothing to do with Brexit.

Interesting. I’ve spent a lot of time in the UK recently, and find most people are very happy not to be tangled in the economic mess of the EU. Turns out they were getting tired of paying for social programs in countries like Greece and Italy.
Come to think of it, many Germans I speak to feel the same way.

Yes, exactly. EU is huge bureaucracy. They take a lot of money and spend them on all king of projects. To get any money for any project is a nightmare of paperwork.
Plus, EU is now using these to force countries to adopt laws they do not like.
Kind of like US uses money to force states to adopt laws feds like, but states do not. I remember 55 mi speed limit was forced on states because of federal road subsidies.

The Brits are miserable because their weather and their politicians suck regardless of party. Remember that the Tories are basically Massachusetts Democrats and even Maggie Thatcher was pro-abort.

The UK is being made to pay by Deep States for Brexiting.

Just like we’re being made to pay for voting for Trump.

We’ve woken up and smelled the covfefe.

What the heck is taking Brits so long?!

The following was a statue unveleied at the UN not too long ago- After folks complained, they took it down- ironically they called their statue a representation depicting “Guardian for International Peace and Security”
Revelation 13:2 NIV
The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority.
