I’m confused what are they condemning? That we shot down an unauthorized violation of our airspace. I suggest we send a couple of dozen spy er ah weather balloons over China and see how they react. Maybe film a season of survivor on one of their manufactured islands

That’s the issue........ the whole actual issue. You can’t “send” weather balloons anywhere.
Stratospheric balloons go where the thin stratospheric air currents take them.
At best, you can let a balloon lose in to the stratosphere and then track the movement. It can not be guided or directed.
So, my belief is that China released the balloons to learn about stratospheric air currents.
Where did the balloon actually come from? If it tracked near the Alaskan Allution islands did it not also travel over Russian land mass?

From what I’ve read, there have been US weather balloons that have crossed into China and have been shot down.
Does anyone remember when China held our spy plane and the crew when it was hit by a Chinese plane while flying off the Coast of China? China demanded we stop flying off their coast because it was a “national humiliation”.
