PALIN on 2024 race: DeSantis should ‘stay governor’
The Hill ^ | 02/15/23 1:20 PM ET | BY JULIA SHAPERO

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said on Tuesday that she thinks Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) should “stay governor” for the time being, as he continues to attract speculation about a potential 2024 presidential bid.

“DeSantis doesn’t need to [run],” Palin said in an interview with Newsmax. “I envision him as our president someday but not right now.

“He should stay governor for a bit longer,” she added. “He’s young, you know. He has decades ahead of him where he can be our president.”

Although DeSantis has yet to announce a 2024 presidential bid, he is widely viewed as former President Trump’s biggest competition for the Republican nomination.

A recent poll from Monmouth University showed Trump and DeSantis tied as the leading choice among Republican voters for their party’s nominee.

However, Palin appeared confident in Trump’s 2024 prospects on Tuesday.

“I’m all about healthy, competitive primaries,” Palin said. “That makes everybody debate more articulately and work harder and let the people know what [their] records are and visions for this country are. And so, I love healthy debate and competitive primaries.”

“But when you talk about the specific people, the individual people who are looking at putting their hat in the ring … they got a lot of guts thinking they’re gonna go up against Trump,” she continued.

I agree. DeSantis will be a great governor through 2026. The fact that he is still governing conservatively — not GOPee — even though he is term-limited speaks well about his character. He should finish his term here in Florida. Then, he can run in 2028.

Slightly off-topic, but relevant:

DeSantis *CANNOT* be Trump's running mate because they are *BOTH* residents of FL.

Well, technically he can, but FL's electoral college votes will be invalidated.

So? (sarc)

I didn’t know that aspect of the law of the EC. I guess DeSantis will have to move to Texas.

Agree, with the caveat that his BIG announcement should come soon and it should be an endorsement for Trump with the promise to work hard to get him elected.

I’d lose respect for DeSantis if he did. Trump’s attacks on DeSantis have been unmerited.

It's politics.

Nothing has been fixed. With Convid as the pretext for cheating nothing was off limits. Those midnight ballot dumps, the Italian database CIA digital fixers, the 2000 mules, Dominion machines, the carboarded-up windows to hide the steal, the vertical blue lines mooning the dementia basement dweller to the white house.

Elections are now like software programs that the CIA runs every two years on the public. Long lines, mail-in ballots, absentee ballots, delayed mail-in absentee Covid positive ballots for the already-expired, tabulator malfunctions, courts taking over with greasy-palmed judges waiting to make selections.

It’s pretty obvious why the democrats are totally dependent on voter fraud.

He is one man. Our Courts are Corrupt to include the SCOTUS. There is ONLY one way to fix this and most people are too scared to do it.

Only because we allow it and most enjoy it.
I can’t be the only guy that is sick of ‘election year’ every year. Somebody is always running and somebody is always asking for money. Give us a break.

The problem is today’s politician spends more time trying to get elected and once he gets in, spends so much time trying to get re-elected that there is very little representation taking place for the constituency that put him there in the first place.

Everyone that agrees is just gung ho for Trump in 2024 and desperately wants his most viable primary competition to not run. Anything said beyond that is disingenuous.

What about those of us who are pro-Trump and living in Florida?

I want Trump in the white house and DeSantis to stick around and keep Florida free.

Am I also disingenuous?

He is one man.

One man, who’s had over 2 years, plus the $250M he collected off people in December 2020 for “election security.” Yet all he’s done is build a website and gripe.

It’s all he has to do now. He doesn’t need to invest bigly this time to run. I figured he’d open his run with a rally, but not even a whiff of one.
He’ll collect donations, send mean tweets and maybe have another ‘investigation’ and his faithful will be happy.
He either drops out like he did in 2000, or he runs third party. I’m not seeing any other options?

The Only Trumpers put their emotions over reason. They will do or say anything to keep DeSantis from challenging Trump. He should stay governor, he would be disloyal, he is not experienced enough ya da ya da ya da.

Let Trump and DeSantis debate and then evaluate and analyze; that is after DeSantis declares he is running. My own personal concern is that Trump, by his own remarks and actions is alienating enought people that he couldn’t be elected if nominated.

:If he runs against PDJT in the Primaries, he is one seriously ungrateful disloyal wretch. If not for Trump’s support, he’d be calling a drugged-up homosexual “Governor” now.”

If name calling is the best you got, give it up. Name calling shows a lack of argument.

How about discussing DeSantis policies and actions he has taken rather than smearing him. What he is doing has national implications, not just for Florida.

Um ... he IS disloyal — X10.
He SHOULD stay governor. He seems to be a good governor.
His day will come.
