Ghana, Ethiopia, Haiti and Somalia are even cheaper. Comparing the cost of living to income would be much more meaningful, since inexpensive housing, etc., is a hallmark of severe poverty.
I have to agree with you as I have lived in Ethiopia and much was dirt cheap, and the living conditions made me really appreciate the USA.
