Newsmax is returning to DirecTV, after the satellite giant dropped the conservative news and commentary channel from its lineup in January over an alleged carriage dispute.

The two companies announced the new deal Wednesday morning, according to the Hollywood Reporter, saying that the channel would return to DirecTV and its streaming services again beginning Thursday.

DirecTV’s CEO Bill Morrow said in a statement:

This resolution with Newsmax, resolving an all-too-common carriage dispute, underscores our dedication to delivering a wide array of programming and perspectives to all our customers. Through our persistent negotiations, we reached a resolution under mutually-agreeable business terms allowing us to deliver the conservative news network at the right value — a reflection of the free market at work.

Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy said in a statement:

Newsmax recognizes and appreciates that DirecTV clearly supports diverse voices, including conservative ones. As a standalone company, DirecTV gave Newsmax its start nearly a decade ago as it continues to do with upcoming news networks, which is why we are pleased to reach a mutually beneficial agreement that will deliver our network to DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and U-verse customers over the next several years.”

DirecTV dropping Newsmax caused an uproar among Republican lawmakers, who threatened hearings and fumed about conservative censorship. DirecTV had previously dropped One America News Network in in April 2022.

After dropping Newsmax, DirecTV had added the conservative channel The First. DirecTV will now feature both channels

Wow. I watch Newsmax only. They have harped on this relentlessly, and gotten just about every guest to weigh in. I thought they were just… excuse my expression… peeing into the wind, but it looks like their persistence paid off. Good on them

They had to promise never to say a kind word about Trump or any conservative ever again.
“Deal.”

Yes. DirecTV held their ground, NewsMax dropped their demands and the channel is back on DirecTV.

Likely. They’ve always been the loyal opposition. I gave up on them back in the late ‘90s IIRC.

You can watch it for free on pluto.tv.

I agree. Newsmax is now the go-to news on TV. I don't even get Fox anymore,
and don't miss it at all. Newmax is free for anyone with an Internet connection.

At the very least, News max will be available to the audience it had prior to the -censorship- negotiations began

Dropping Newsmax was one of several reasons why we cut the cord on Monday and returned our U-verse DVR and STB to AT&T. We could pick up Newsmax on the Roku Channel for free (no DVR), so it wasn't a complete deal-breaker.

But increasing the cost of the service to $195/mo (includes fees and taxes) just to receive the handful of channels the wife wants was the biggest factor. $13/mo was just for the re-braodcast of local channels, which we rarely watch anymore (good to have when there's a major weather event, but that's about it).

Newsmax, and a lot of other channels, are available at no charge - completely legally - on multiple streaming apps on a smart TV box like a Roku. One time charge for the box and the box is no more expensive than a single month of premium for cable, satellite, etc. Yet countless millions continue to spend thousands of dollars a year, year after year, in premiums for things available for free on streaming apps and over the air antennas.
