Is DeSantis Winning the Public Relations Battle Against Disney?
PJ Media ^ | 04/27/2023 | Chris Queen

The fight between Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) and The Walt Disney Corporation (TWDC) has been going on for over a year, but the skirmish has intensified in recent weeks with the Florida legislature’s dismantling of Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District and setting up a new district under state supervision — all done with DeSantis’ full support.

TWDC has filed a suit against DeSantis, even as the state’s new Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board continues to shed light on how Disney took advantage of its quasi-governmental authority. But is the whole controversy putting DeSantis in a bad light, or can he benefit from it?

The short answer to that question is: it depends on who you ask.

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll provides some interesting insight into what voters think about the DeSantis vs. Disney donnybrook. On the surface, the results look like a bad news/good news mix for the governor.

“Following recent arguments between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, seven in ten Americans (73%) say they are aware of Disney objecting to recent Florida laws banning the discussion of sexuality and gender in public schools, while nearly four in five (78%) say they are aware of recent efforts to revoke some of Walt Disney World’s legal privileges in Florida,” reports Ipsos. “Despite such high awareness of these events, a plurality (47%) of Americans say they do not know who is winning the fight.”Ipsos

On the whole, voters view the state’s actions and DeSantis punishing Disney for exercising its free speech rights, with 64% agreeing to that statement and 36% saying that Florida is “rightfully rolling back special treatment for Disney.”

Democrats overwhelmingly see the state’s actions as a punishment for TWDC making unequivocal statements against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law, with 87% of Democrats saying that DeSantis is targeting Florida as a result. Two-thirds of independents agree.

But GOP voters see the issue differently, with 64% of those surveyed agreeing that DeSantis is right in undoing the special treatment Disney has received for over five decades and only 36% insisting that the state is punishing Disney.

We know for sure that DeSantis does not have the support of some Republicans.

Nikki Haley, the GOP Presidential candidate actually sides with Disney Over DeSantis.

Funny thing is Disney would still be getting its Crony Capitalism way had they not gotten mouthy.

The Florida Govt has been enabling a demonic corporation and would still be doing it, had it not decided to speak out..

Shut up Disney, or we’re going to finally do something about that sweetheart Crony deal our forefathers brought forth to this swamp..

Expect to see more poll results in the lamestream media showing everybody hates Governor DeSantis for taking the cheese away from little Minnie and little Mickey.

Consider: Disney's lawsuit is an admission that Disney doesn't expect public opinion in Florida to force the legislature to reverse course and reinstate the 1960s sweetheart arrangement of self-dealing self-government.

Disney's 40 paid lobbyists in Tallahassee must be telling the international conglomerate that they need to find an Obama federal judge to rescue their Kingdom.

The Disney-announced lawsuit does not have legs to stand on but in front of the right judge, that might not matter.

An Obama judge could rule that the homosexual marriage amendment to the U.S. Constitution (14th) also protects child grooming corporations from state interference.

After Trump sided with Disney.

She's vying for the VP slot and needed to know where her potential boss stood on the issue.

Final straw with me regarding Trump, not that he or his supporters care. I looked past a lot with him for 2 reasons, kept us out of war, and he has all the right enemies. His pro groomer position and generally trashing Florida has finally pushed me over. I do think Trump will win the R nomination, fine, I’ll just go 3rd party in ‘24.

“Florida is “rightfully rolling back special treatment for Disney.”

‘Special Treatment’ isn’t a legal concept or a constitutional right.

If Disney is ordered to conform to the same laws as ordinary corporations in Florida, on what grounds could they object.

Disney would deserve an orderly transition from ‘special’ to ‘ordinary’.

Have you considered that going 3rd party in 2024, helps elect a Democrat? Your action, and others who think as you do, in effect, help elect a Democrat.

Or do you not care what the effect of a vote for a 3rd party would be?

It is a foul when you use the power of the state to punish your political enemies.

Disney isn’t just a “political enemy”; it’s also a purveyor of wokeness and Cultural Marxism.

“If Disney is ordered to conform to the same laws as ordinary corporations in Florida, on what grounds could they object.”

Disney’s thinking is that equal treatment will in some way cost them money; and it is “not fair” to take away their money.

There has been a narrative for forever that liberals do not care about money. Liberals love money. And they love to take it away fair or foul from others.

Liberals are some on the most greedy and - let’s just spit it out - corrupt people in history.

Worse, liberals in recent decades have teamed up with Satan.
