Disney scraps plans for new Florida campus, mass employee relocation amid DeSantis feud

Disney has abandoned plans to open up a new employee campus in Lake Nona, Florida, amid rising tensions with the state’s governor.

Citing “changing business conditions” and the return of CEO Bob Iger, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s parks, experiences and products division, penned a memo to employees Thursday, announcing that the company will not move forward with construction of the campus and will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.

“This was not an easy decision to make, but I believe it is the right one,” D’Amaro told employees.

Many Disney employees balked at the company’s relocation plans when they were first announced in July 2021 by former CEO Bob Chapek. While some left the company, or transitioned to other posts within Disney that would not require a move to Florida, others held out hope that the plan would fizzle out after a postponement. The campus was originally slated to open in 2022-2023, but was later delayed to 2026.

Disney is headquartered in Burbank, California, but operates a number of satellite offices across the country and the world.

That’s the best card Di$ney has to play at the moment, I think. Unless they have something better up their sleeve.

I lived in So Cal 1964-1993

I can remember when having a job at DISNEY STUDIOS was highly prized.

I’m sure it still is prized, among liberals.

The fewer Californicators the better. And most of them didn’t want to go to Florida anyway.

I can expect that Orlando area politicians are mostly unhappy about this.
However, I also expect the people in that Orlando neighborhood are absolutely elated. Who wants the increased demands on local resources in the parts of town where they live?
Glad to see this development.

BS. They’re putting a halt to it because a) it’s HUGELY EXPENSIVE b) they’re getting hammered in the market and c) there is boatloads of sublease space in the market, in FLA and CA

I don’t think Florida is desperate for jobs, and there aren’t that many places the Califriscan employees are going to be that thrilled to move to if Disney tries somewhere else. “Welcome to Atlanta” or “New Jersey here we come” aren’t going to be well embraced.

. . . will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.

Another win for the free state of Florida.

I bet that a lot of California Disney workers are upset with this decision. I'm sure a bunch of the rank and file were hoping for a company relocation to Florida.

The employees didn’t want to relocate. The plan was delayed at least once. Apparently it has nothing to do with Disney’s feud with Florida, but the author couldn’t resist getting DeSantis’ name into the headline to catch some attention.

I like DeSantis, but I never thought that his pushback on Disney would result in success this soon.

Apparently thousands of Disney perverts will not be moving to Florida - that means they will not be voting in Florida!

Why didn't other Republicans think of taking action before.

And DeSantis has stopped Disney from getting its hands on nuclear materials without state oversight. The last thing Florida needs is material for dirty bombs floating around in Disney's swamps unsupervised.

Bottom line here: Disney isn’t simply Woke, they’re a hostile force of pro-pedophile adults trying to groom and program an entire generation of sexual perversion.

F them all to hell.

If Dismal World closes and they move out of FL, it will have a short term negative economic impact on the Orlando area, but business like nature abhors a vacuum. FL has had a robust tourist industry decades before Walt threw that ceremonial first clod of dirt near Reedy Creek before he died

....for a win!

SC would be perfect. South Carolina took a period of time to get over the effects of Jesse Jackson’s imposed boycott of the hospitality industry in that state. That’s the only thing most workers could get jobs with, and Jackson tried very hard to shut that down.

Lots of Northerners enroute to Florida via I-95 found South Carolina to be the perfect stopover spot before heading on down to the Sunshine State. Brother Jackson tried mighty hard to kill that off.

They need a boost, let them have Disney.
