The Guy’s Got Balls’: Meet The Little-Known Governor Who’s Expected To Jump Into The 2024 Presidential Race
Daily Caller ^ | 4 Jun 2023 | Mary Lou Masters

- North Dakota’s two-term Republican Gov. Doug Burgum is expected to announce a run for president in 2024 on Wednesday.

- Burgum is a longtime private-sector businessman who founded multiple businesses before overwhelmingly winning the governorship twice.

- “Doug Burgum does not get into anything he thinks he can’t win,” Jim Poolman, former state legislator, vice chairman of the state’s GOP and state insurance commissioner, told the DCNF. “I think he genuinely believes he can win, and I genuinely believe he can win.”

North Dakota’s governor is among the most popular in the nation, but few outside the state have heard his name. As he prepares to make an expected entrance into the Republican primary for president this week, some of Gov. Doug Burgum’s longtime observers and associates tell the Daily Caller News Foundation that the political outsider is in it to win it, and won’t be deterred by the long odds against him.

Burgum, who has already been filming TV advertisements, will make a “major announcement” on Wednesday in Fargo, North Dakota, where he is expected to launch his presidential campaign, the DCNF previously confirmed. The wealthy private-sector businessman is popular across North Dakota, has a good relationship with the legislature and is very articulate, several political operatives in the state told the DCNF.

I predict a great future for Gov. Bergum on the “kiddie table” debate tour…

“””There sure are a lot of people who seem to be operating on the assumption that there will be some shenanigans that knock Trump out of the race. Seems the GOP has a plan.”””

Charlie Kirk spent most of his program talking about all of ‘less than 1 percenters who the GOP has arrayed to attack Trump in any debate.

Charlie almost came around to saying that Trump should simply not show up for any debate, but instead schedule an alternate event on some podcast at the time of a GOP debate.

Can’t be any harm. Let’s see what his positions are. Trump does need a VP.

He’s a RINO. Don’t vote for him until you talk to someone from N.D.

Well, speaking as a North Dakotan, he's popular with me. He's been great on 2A issues, taxes, and business development (especially energy development where we're not hamstrung by the Feds). He's "okay" on social issue; clearly not his main interest.

But yes, he has no chance and I don't think he sees the wholesale firing that needs to happen in Washington. I'd like him to stay here, like DeSantis should stay in Florida.

In 2016 the GOP started with 16. Trump supported controlling illegal immigrants and all of the others needed the big GOP donors that supporting illegal immigration. That gave Trump a base of 25-30% and he built from there.

In 2024 illegal immigration and the Ukraine/Russia war are both issues with the establishment big GOP donors on one side, and a significant portion of the base on the other. DeSantis already waffled on Ukraine. Waffling on these two issues will be a killer for anyone running in a fair primary.

Unfortunately, Ukraine is going to be the big issue this time around.

Goofy looking guy.

Sort of like your high school chem teacher/b-ball coach.

His (second) wife is kind of pretty, though.

My college chem prof used to walk quickly down the hall, with very short stride, and hug the wall. Kinda like a field mouse sticking close to the dive holes and looking for hawks.

Went to all the kegers.

Made lecture BOOM demos. Was kinda a hoot.
