Florida Gov DeSantis announces crackdown on out-of-state illegal immigrant driver licenses
FOX News ^ | July 5, 2023 | Adam Shaw

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday announced that the state will no longer recognize a number of out-of-state driver licenses that are given to illegal immigrants, enacting restrictions in legislation passed earlier this year.

DeSantis, who is also running for president in 2024, announced that the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has published a list of out-of-state license classes that are now invalid in Florida.

That list targets certain licenses given to illegal immigrants in Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island and Vermont. It does not apply to typical driver licenses, but those with certain limitations -- including those that state they are "not for federal identification" are not REAL ID compliant or that are dubbed "limited purpose."

No judge will strike it down since it’s not a law. It’s a state policy and no illegal is gonna take Florida to court.

Huh?

These people have been issued a government ID, like it or not, meaning that the other state has legally issued them the ID.

How can they be turned over to the ICE for deportation?

The current administration isn’t going to deport them anyway, so who are they going to be turned over to?

No different than a state issued CCW is not recognized in another state. Plus at the end of the day these illegals are still that illegal even if a state is giving them an in-state ID. They should’ve stayed in that state.

No illegal is going to take Florida to court? Really?

These people, who I don’t want in this country anymore than you, were provided a state-issued license.

The thing that allows you to drive in other states is a reciprocity agreement, buried way down deep in the state law books, that allows DLs to be accepted.

If a Florida cop pulls someone over and they have one of these licenses, what is the protocol for determining if they’re illegal? Do they call the state up and ask for the person’s legal status? Biden is allowing all of them in on phony asylum claims, then what?

I would love to see each and everyone of them, licensed or not, marched to the southern border and sent back to wherever they came from, but this isn’t as easy as folks think it will be.

“Ilegals” might not sue, but some liberal lawfare group sure as hell will, in an attempt to prevent discrimination or profiling.

That is 100% not an answer to my question. That’s your opinion.

How will law enforcement enforce the “policy/law”, whatever it is?

According to the Supreme Court, during a traffic stop law enforcement can only ask you questions concerning the traffic stop, UNLESS their knowledge, training and experience leads them to believe that there is potential for another crime.

If the guy gets pulled over, how are Florida cops going to determine their status in the country?

Or is Florida just not accepting these different licenses, issued legally from whatever state, as valid licenses to drive? ... if it’s that simple, great. Trust me, I’d love it if not one single illegal was able to obtain anything and sent back to where they came from.

But, something tells me this has potential to blow up in his face and may not be as easy as folks would like to think. I have no problem being wrong on this.

If an illegal alien has a state issued license that is valid only in their home state because they are an illegal alien, if they’ve traveled to Florida, and they’re stopped, that ID identifies them as an illegal alien. With that knowledge, Florida law-enforcement should turn them over for deportation. The challenge, as noted in this article, and in others about this, is that some states just issue them a non-real ID drivers license, so no one knows if they’re any legal in or not. Other states, the ones that Florida has noted in this article, and in others about this, is that some states just issued them a non-real ID drivers license, so no one knows if they’re any illegal alien or not. Other states, the ones that Florida has announced issue licenses that are specifically issued only to illegal aliens. So the ID self identifies them.

It doesn’t cover NYS.

This effort is a joke.

And so is DeSantis.

They also do not have standing to borrow from a knee-jerk court decision.

You think a corrupt leftist judge cares about that?
There’s a reason why the borders are open and an uncoordinated Governor with laughable presidential aspirations isn’t going to stop the powers that be.

Every state must be compliant by May 2025. Some currently have extensions to become compliant. The list is at the link below.

“I have no need for a Real ID compliant driver’s license and no plans on ever getting one.”
******************************************************
So you plan on giving up driving? Because some states have been granted extensions to completing the issuance of Real ID driver’s licenses and state ID’s, but none are exempt from it.

Not nice. People are just upset that DeSantis is running now, instead of 2028. He’s successful, energetic, engaging, and doing quite well. Rather than trashing DeSantis at every opportunity, you should be helping Trump win new voters despite his behavior, bad hiring choices, and disloyalty issues. Simply put, trashing DeSantis does not help Trump, probably costs him voters in the long run. And people will tire of it all, if they aren’t already.

I have a real problem with this real ID
fiasco.
Why, after 52 years of driving with a valid
drivers license, do I have to prove all over
again, who I am. I’ve paid taxes on my
property for 30+”years.
They hand out driver’s licenses to illegals
like candy, with virtually no way to prove
who they really are, but American citizens
have to jump thru all the hoops.
