NY ordered to redistrict House maps, Dems could claw back 6 congressional seats

A New York court ordered new congressional maps be redrawn ahead of the 2024 midterms, siding with Democrats salivating at the chance to overturn several embarrassing losses last November.

The Appellate court reversed a lower court on Thursday and ordered the state’s redistricting commission to start work on new proposed state congressional lines impacting 26 House seats.

“We’re looking forward to getting back to work,” said Karen Blatt, the commission’s Democratic co-executive director. “And we’re looking forward to working with our Republican side as well.

If the congressional districts revert to the lines drawn in 2022, it would also seriously jeopardize Republican wins in battleground seats on Long Island, Staten Island and the Hudson Valley, which experts pinpoint as key to icing out Democratic control of the House, and possibly end GOP control of the House.

NY redistricting lawsuit could blow up GOP House majority “The Appellate Division majority’s conclusion guts the New York Constitution’s explicit prohibition against mid-decade redistricting. When Democrats can’t compete, they cheat,” House GOP Chairwoman Elise Stefanik and state Republican Chairman Ed Cox said in a joint statement.

Republicans vowed to take the politically charged case to New York’s highest court.

“Democrats want to rig the congressional district lines in their favor,” roared former GOP Rep. John Faso of the Hudson Valley district. “New York State now has more competitive congressional districts than any state in the nation.”

If the decision is upheld by the Empire State’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, they would replace the maps used for the 2022 elections – which were redrawn by a neutral, court-ordered “special master” after Albany Democrats gerrymandered a previous version of the district lines.

So now a neutral, court appointed special master is illegitimate?

This stopped being interesting a long time ago. The ‘rat position is that no process, no principle, and no map is legitimate unless it empowers the maximalist democrat grab. And somewhere, an activist judge will be found to rule this way.

Never fear the supreme court will step in and say they are not fair like in NC and Lousiana.

The New York Court of Appeals is the highest court in the Unified Court System of the State of New York. The Court of Appeals consists of seven judges: the Chief Judge and six Associate Judges who are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the State Senate to 14-year terms. So you know an appeal will never work in New York state whose politicians and judges stink worse than an open sewer.

Why doesn't someone challenge this to the Supreme Court?

The Constitution says to reapportion every 10 years. New York reapportioned and held an election under the new districts. I would think that SCOTUS would decide that states cannot redistrict every time they lose an election to eliminate the districts that the ruling party lost.

The Constitution says they get one bite at that apple per decade, and that's what SCOTUS should rule. Once an election is held against the new districts, they must remain in place until the next census and reapportionment.

Negative nancy much?? It’s no wonder we don’t do a good job at improving out odds when so many of yall brag a boutique how we are going to lose. Do you not realize that that turns off people from showing up to vote & convinces undecideds to vote for the other party showing a little more confidence. I’m honestly sick to death of reading this on a daily basis. I keep hearing about what fighters yall are. You’re not. I think you might want to consider that attitudes like yours are the reason we haven’t been winning 🙄😑🤔

It’s the UNIPARTY party, they always win.

Time to repeal the 17th Amendment and take the power away from the uniparty, and the K street whores who fund them

“So you know an appeal will never work in New York state whose politicians and judges stink worse than an open sewer.”

Actually it was the Court of Appeals that struck down the last Democratic gerrymander.
