Austin mayor blocks state police help for understaffed PD in move that caves to 'defund' activists: critics

The department was down 500 officers while facing mass retirements amid the defund movement in the wake of protests and riots in reaction to the death of George Floyd.

Former Austin law enforcement members told Fox News Digital that the city’s move to end the partnership with the state has put politics in front of public safety and serves as an example of city leaders once again caving to left wing pressure rather than supporting police officers.

"This has gone off the rails," Austin Police Retired Officers Association President Dennis Farris told Fox News Digital. "I think he flipped out without knowing the facts and got some bad advice from his advisers."

If Texas flips blue, the only question I would have is whether to move to Oklahoma or to leave the country entirely. Maybe Costa Rica, maybe Hungary although their language is very hard to learn.

Well, police funding makes up 35% of the city’s budget, just reduce your property tax by 35%. Maybe they will get the message! Of course since they want to defund the police, you are just helping them fill their desire.

Liberals are indeed a disease-but Austin has been a liberal city since I can remember-it certainly was in the early 70’s-it was like a dangerous adventure to wonderland for those of us who lived in the country. Nothing has changed, other than now we need to put a fence around Austin, charge a high admission price from tourists to go there, book a hotel room, etc and have anyone who does sign a release of liability-Austin isn’t turning anyone else into anything-it is just a dangerous tourist attraction like it has been for years...

My husband and I have our eyes on Arkansas. And if that state falls too by then hopefully by the grace of God my husband and I would’ve already croaked! I just feel so incredibly sad for our children and grandchildren, and I’m heartsick to think that we are leaving an America in shambles for them. It breaks my heart to no end.

The Texas legislature meets for 2 weeks once every other year. The governor did all he could do sending in DPS troopers.

The solution is one people do not want to talk about and involves walls made out of sandbags, cigarettes, and blindfolded liberals.

Not sure what you’re comment regarding the legislature is about.

As for the liberals, I see your point. But with the way things are going in this country, they may just get way more than they bargained for if things continue to go south. They’re all touchy-feely and don’t think they can do anything wrong, especially the ones in the cities. If/when things start getting real bad in those cities they’re the first ones the vermin are going after. And since none of them like or have guns, they’re sitting ducks.

Oh well....two big problems with them...1 - they’re so arrogant that they cannot admit that it is their support of these policies and politicians that have brought all of this bad sh*t on. 2 - the ones that can move, have already move or are in the process of moving to the suburbs and further out, small towns and they have started destroying them, as well....and then we go back to #1

Just an all-around, classy city.

Surely you're joking. My daughter lived there for 5 years or so after moving from Kansas to Austin. From my many trips there it reminded me of Berkeley in California, only a pale imitation. Bunch of liberal weirdos, and a tiny downtown.

There is no there, there (like the quote about Oakland). Spread out over many miles, boring, boring and more boring. My daughter is back in California and glad she left Austin. Granddaughter spent 3 weeks there, and returned last Saturday; she was bored. When I think classy, I don't think about Austin.

Those “liberal weirdos” give the city character. I love the boutique restaurants, shops, and buskers or musicians playing with the hat out for tips.
No wonder why conservatives never win the culture wars and are always depicted as Leave it to Beaver tight butts.

Hi neighbor... I am also 60 miles out of Austin, north on 35 surrounded by Belton...

I used to visit Austin several times a month but now avoid it if at all possible. It has been well over a year since my last trip there...The overflow from Austin is killing our small town attitude....

Those “liberal weirdos” give the city character.

One time I was there, across the street from Whole Foods after exiting a music store full of liberal weirdos, and a couple of lesbian weirdos shoved a petition in my face to support abortions. I got into a testy argument with them about them killing babies. That kind of city character, I don't need or want. I don't want that type of "culture" from angry gay loose butts.

Thank you for that explanation. I’m in San Antonio and appreciate knowing what those progressive a$$holes are going.
