New Yorkers will pay double for Con Ed gas, electricity by 2025 — and will see a steep 9% increase next month

New Yorkers could see their Con Edison gas and electricity bills more than double in the next two years due to a newly approved rate hike by the state’s top public utility regulator.

Next month alone, Con Ed will spike rates across the city by a staggering 9% as part of the three-year rate plan greenlighted by the state Public Service Commission.

The hefty price jump next month is to make up for Con Ed not being able to rake in the higher rates for the first half of this year, the state’s top public utility regulator said.

The commission defended Con Ed’s push for rate increases, saying the hikes were necessary, in part, to help the electricity giant cope with rising company costs and property taxes, as well as improve electric and gas operations across the board and the state’s climate change goals.

Con Ed, on their part, blamed the increases on the Big Apple’s property taxes.

“A large part of the rate increase is driven by taxes, most notably City of New York property taxes, which are now $1.9 billion as of financial year 2019–2020 and continue to increase every year,” the company noted on its website.”

“With today’s decision, Con Edison is required to pursue important energy efficiency initiatives among other progressive policies to advance the goals of New York State’s nation-leading climate change targets while mitigating bill impacts for most low-income customers, as part of New York’s nation-leading policy for energy affordability,” Commission chair, Rory M. Christian, said.

Meanwhile, Deep State exports record amounts of our energy to God knows where.

And its plan to decimate the middle class continues merrily along.

A lot of energy and environmental policies are implemented by non elected governmental personnel. Idealists and crooked people are to blame, not arbitrary voters you don’t like because they’re Yankees.
This is coming for all of us.
It’s just a matter of time.
Demographics is destiny.

She does look good in the second picture... That was before college made her totally brain dead.

NY is the east coast California. Raising taxes seems to be the liberal cure for all the problems they create. A circular argument.

You need middle and upper income consumers and taxpayers to cover the costs of “green” energy and social programs for the low income people. With rigged elections, the current powers that be can only be removed by death or retirement. You cannot impose the higher energy costs and taxes on people who leave New York. The upstate area has been hollowing out since the 1970s; crime, high cost of living, and the miserable lifestyle is beginning to turn the downstate area into a coastal version of Detroit. The people running New York are counting on Federal bailouts to keep them afloat. Or they are delusional. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

” saying the hikes were necessary, in part, to help the electricity giant cope with rising company costs and property taxes, as well as improve electric and gas operations across the board and the state’s climate change goals. “

Actually the rate hikes are because of

1) the state’s climate change goals
2) the state’s climate change goals
3) the state’s climate change goals and
4) the state;s climate change goals.

“as part of New York’s nation-leading policy for energy affordability,”

Nothing says more affordable than sharp price increases.

Do these people even listen to their own words?
