I spoke with someone recently who related that local fire companies are doing just that when an EV is on fire by the roadside. Simpler and safer for all and doesn’t use up massive quantities of firefighting stuff in an attempt to extinguish. This is true. Many fire departments protocol is to clear the area of an electric vehicle fire to prevent the spread and then let it burn itself out under as much control as they can reasonably execute. I believe there are some toxic fumes associated with lithium, zinc, aluminum, plastic, carbon fiber resin and rubber burning. So there is that. It's a hell of a mess to clean up.
Let the ship burn and sink. It's a gonner once those batteries start chain reaction ignition.

Well hell, using gun control logic, you make the the battery manufacturer responsible for any pollution, fire damage or any other incidental or consequential damages caused by the burning battery.
Somebody's gotta be responsible, by god this is merica!
