KAMPALA, Aug 28 (Reuters) - A 20-year-old man has become the first Ugandan to be charged with "aggravated homosexuality", an offence punishable by death under the country's recently enacted anti-gay law, prosecutors and his lawyer said.
Defying pressure from Western governments and rights organisations, Uganda in May enacted one of the world's harshest laws targeting the LGBT community.
It prescribes life in prison for same-sex intercourse. The death penalty can apply in cases deemed "aggravated", which include repeat offences, gay sex that transmits terminal illness, or same-sex intercourse with a minor, an elderly person or a person with disabilities.
According to a charge sheet seen by Reuters, the defendant was charged on Aug. 18 with aggravated homosexuality after he "performed unlawful sexual intercourse" with a 41-year-old man. It did not specify why the act was considered aggravated.

When you consider that Uganda was one country absolutely ravaged by HIV/AIDS for decades, you can understand the tough attitude toward the vector that transmitted it.
In the 1800s, Uganda had a Sodomite King who raped every male that came near him. Christians resisted and were killed. Ugandans don’t want to go back to those dark days. BTW…there’s nothing gay about Sodomy! It’s a plague on civilization

When I first read that book, I was enthralled by it, primarily because it was hyped as a true story.
Found out years later that Henri Charriere made up the whole damn story. Still an interesting read but what a let down.
