At the end of this transformation, will it still be the same ship? Plutarch's image in the “Life of Theseus” offers some help for a reflection on identity. Let's imagine that the boat is our civilization. Would we still be faced with the same civilization? With the wave of mass migration towards Europe we are faced with the greatest upheaval of European identity since the times of the Spanish Reconquista and the Ottoman wars. Italian PM Giorgia Meloni said that "millions" will come, after 10.000 migrants landed in the Italian island of Lampedusa.
History teaches that all civilizations, regardless of technological level, are subject to mass migrations once they reach senescence and that, sooner or later, they see their identities and social cohesion threatened.
In 2022 alone, the European Union welcomed 1 million asylum seekers, not counting the flows of regular immigrants. Even if the numbers remained the same, by the end of the century they would be 100 million out of a population of 400 million, a third of whom are over 65. The repopulation and change of civilization would be complete.
The best-known example comes, obviously, from classical antiquity. The tribes moved from the Germanic regions to the Roman Empire, destroying its institutions and infrastructure and forming their own kingdoms, which, ultimately, led to the fragmentation and dissolution of the Empire.

By the time we wake up to the fact our culture is being destoyed intentionally by evil people it’ll be too late to save it.

It’s as if a demonic force destroyed all the art and beauty in the world - for sport. That’s what’s happening to the airy and beautiful cultures of the world.

I would like to know when “lookin’ for a better” life became an excuse for freeloaders to illegally sneak into a capitalist country run by white people and DEMAND “assylum”. They all need to be catapulted back across the Rio Grande. America is losin’ jobs and I don’t think we need this many “yard landscapers”, roofers, house maids and drunk drivers.
America of the 50’s had it’s flaws... racial injustice topping that list - but turning the country into a third world hellhole is not the solution.
It’s not always so cut and dry though. The Gothic hordes overwhelmed the Western Roman empire, but then they adopted Christianity, and learned Latin, and a couple centuries later tried to resurrect their own version of the “Roman Empire”. Yes, the old empire “died” but we still carry elements of it in our civilization’s DNA to this day because the barbarian invaders were changed by it as much as they changed it.
Same could be said for the Persians conquering the Mesopotamians, or the the Greeks conquering the Persians, or the Muslims conquering another set of Persians, or the Mongols and Turks conquering the Muslims. Rarely does a barbarian conquest happen where they destroy everything from the previous civilization without preserving the best elements.
