I generally agree with you. They are a distraction and in most cases, especially in this day and age of CC. However, this time I'll give them a pass, because if I remember correctly, there was a deaf bowling team among the murdered.

That (some murdered members of the bowling team were deaf)
changes everything. It was appropriate.
Most of those communities are very close and dear to each other.

There was one 14 year old amongst the killed.

Local news here in Maine reported that an adult man, who had been shot in the legs, managed to herd the rest of the teenagers out the back door and saved them.
