U.S., European officials broach topic of peace negotiations with Ukraine, sources say

WASHINGTON — U.S. and European officials have begun quietly talking to the Ukrainian government about what possible peace negotiations with Russia might entail to end the war, according to one current senior U.S. official and one former senior U.S. official familiar with the discussions.

The conversations have included very broad outlines of what Ukraine might need to give up to reach a deal, the officials said. Some of the talks, which officials described as delicate, took place last month during a meeting of representatives from more than 50 nations supporting Ukraine, including NATO members, known as the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, the officials said.

Then start the graft and kick back opportunities from the effort to rebuild Ukraine.

Bingo. Blackrock gonna cash in and buy up everything that's been abandoned. Next up, Gaza.

I will draw attention to the relationship between the "50" in BTR-50, anf the "50" in 1950. Nothing says RUSSIA STRONG like sending guys into combat, in 2023, in Stalin Era AFVs. But hey, at least they still have some more modern artillery support, with Khrushchev Era tubes firing NORK munitions.

Come one. Enlighten us about how this shows Russia's strength.

Yeah, I remember when the NeoCon tanks crossed the border into Russia. /sarcasm

You mean the Leopards, Challengers and Abrams? Or do you mean Strykers or Bradleys? Or how about the Javelins, Himars, Patriots, ATACMS and M777s?

Any assertion that NATO is not 100% a part of this war is just stupid. You don't want to sound stupid, do you?

So Russia will get the provinces it wants, plus Ukraine will not enter NATO — sort of like its original objective. Democrats/Joe’s policy will have caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands, many more wounded, Ukraine destroyed, millions of refugees, Europe’s economy destroyed, massive US debt, China shown Russia’s military weakness, US shown as a feckless ally with limits of US power demonstrated yet again, new weapons (cheap drones) demonstrated for terrorists to acquire and deploy, immense release of greenhouse gases when the US blew up the Nordstream pipeline, etc. It is as if a demented criminal buffoon was running things. Heck of a job, BIDEN.

All the above AND the Neocons will have managed to drive Russia right into China's arms along with Iran's in an ironclad alliance against America - EXACTLY what any sensible foreign policy would have sought to prevent.

My pet theory is that Biden never really wanted a war and spoke his true mind when he said he’d be fine with a quick limited land grab by Russia. Biden believes in divisions along ethnic lines as evidenced by his plan to divide post-war Iraq into three regions back in the day. I think he saw Ukraine the same way — just let the Russkies have the eastern parts and be done with it. But I think he got talked into engaging in a proxy war by his handlers.

My guess is that Russia would be fine with just keeping the eastern parts in a negotiated peace agreement, and I suspect that’s what the end result will be whenever that happens.

Ask the British and Germans, it was their tanks.

“My guess is that Russia would be fine with just keeping the eastern parts in a negotiated peace agreement, and I suspect that’s what the end result will be whenever that happens.”

I would have agreed with you before and even early into the war, but Russia has had to spill far too much blood to accept what would be a Korea-style freeze, where Ukraine would be re-armed to fight a few more years. On top of that, there is literally no trust of the West (understandably so), so they’ll need a neutral party basically occupying Ukraine, maybe China or India, for example, to make sure they don’t ‘get cute’ again.

Anyway, that’s my take, no ‘sources’, just me.

One of the main reasons that I was against this war from the start was that we didn’t do jack to prepare for it. The Neocons and especially the Biden bunch (along with plenty of elected Republicans) simply figured that our military hardware was INVINCIBLE and therefore there was no need to worry about being defeated. Meanwhile, the Russians, for example, had developed and deployed hypersonics, of which we were barely in the testing phase. Even today, we’ve hardly budged to backfill our military, much less catch up for the past 30 years. Another example, thanks to this Neocon War, Russia is in the process of increasing the size of their military from 900,000 to 1.5M troops. What are we doing????

What restaurant the family goes to is up to the children. It’s their dinner. /s

When Ukraine is almost completely financially supported by America, they do not get to call the shots.

Our own Army still operates 6000 M-113s. Those are a 1960 design. Israel uses 500 of them. And then we need to talk about the B-52. You know, as in 1952!
And did you know AK-47s date back from the late 40s? And lord, that geriatric AR-15 design from 1962.

And if you add together, 1950, 6000, 113, 47 and 1952, they add up to 9062! And if you divide that by four, it comes to 2265.5.

So that means they will keep fighting until the year 2265 when the war will end in June of that year.

I am so glad that you and your Farrakhan warfare numerology has opened my eyes.

It’s our money. If we stopped providing the money, arms, and ammo, the senseless killing and destruction would end. We should use our leverage to end this proxy war.

Wait just a minute... soooo.... you’re saying that driving a nation with the worlds largest trove of natural resources and nuclear arsenal, into the arms of the worlds largest manufacturing nation, hungry for resources, into an alliance against us... was a bad idea?

You must be wrong. If you were right, I am sure Washington DC would have already thought of it. They are much smarter than us. They know everything, even what you should eat.
Now go and have your 9 servings of grain today with high fructose corn syrup, and remember to avoid meat and eggs. And remember, if you want to avoid colds and flu, skip walks, exercise and fresh air.

Turns out what was invincible was a US Cold War era Armored division like we used in Desert Storm. It’s not the machines, it was the old toxic male military and it’s skill.

Yep. All that military expertise, wasted on political skullduggery here in the US.
