The actual number is not the point. The logic doesn’t change if the number is a dozen.
Pretty easy to see where this is headed. The fight against hamas will be frozen permantly. Hamas will string out any further releases. Israel will leave Gaza. The arabs will head back to north gaza. Tunnel infrastructure will be rebuilt with siphoned off stuff given by the EU U.N China, U.S ,Arab countries to rebuild. Netanyahu will fall on his sword with no objectives achieved. Israel enters a low level civil war. A two state formula imposed on them. The Arabs more emboldened by getting nearly all of what they want. Hot civil war erupts in Israel. Israel falls. Unbelievable
Read the parable of the prodigal son. You may not agree with the tradeoff, or the reasoning, but there is a reasoning that the Israeli government is following in taking the deal. All of those hostages were lost without an uncertain rescue. Gaining some of them is like bringing them back to life.
I don't think Israel can survive as a "democracy" at this point. It'll have to turn into a dictatorship.

No tou open a bulwark to free some trapped submariners and in the process lose everyone, or do you make the gut wrenching decision that in order to save the many the few must be sacrificed. Israel has chosen the former. Hamas left to regroup. Iran gloats. Isis in Sinai gloats. Hezbollah. The arabs plan more Oct 7’s. Mkre hostages, knowing Israel is all talk no action. Just one hostage away from humiliating white flaggism.

Israel is a vassal state of the US, so when push comes to shove they do what the US wants them to do. If they lose the US support they have nowhere else to turn.
