Toby Keith story-

In 2006, I was in a lovely garden spot in the middle east- Al Qaim, Iraq. It was a railroad station, railhead, maintenance depot, etc.

On a USO tour, Toby Keith was tasked with traveling to Al Qaim.

As a carpenter, I, and my shop crew teammates, were tasked with assembling a stage. The cool or beneficial aspect for the assembly crew was that we could hang out at the stage in support of any need that might arise, during the concert.

Unfortunately for me, I got orders to travel to Kuwait, to undergo thorough medical testing to determine if I had some blood born issue, as I tripped some alarm when I agreed to donate my blood to wounded Iraqis, bombed in a local terrorist attack.

By the time I got back to base, Toby Keith and his entourage were long gone.

Later, and at a different base, me and a crew of fellow tradesmen, constructed a stage for Charlie Daniels.

Good times.

They had to drag Charlie Daniels, kicking and screaming, off the stage when a dust storm hit the base.

He was taken to the base movie theater, where he signed autographs.

Wow freepersup. What a great story. Thanks for sharing that with us. Sure wish you hadn’t missed Toby, though. I remember loving his song, “How Do You Like Me Now?”
