Former President Trump on Monday vowed to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with his own “much better” alternative program, reviving his push to slash the now-popular healthcare option used by millions of Americans.
“Obamacare is too expensive, and otherwise, not good healthcare,” Trump, the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination next year, wrote in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump is for allowing catastrophic insurance plans.
Those would lead to less utilization.
Possibly a lot less.
I can see why Big Med and Big Pharma had a cow about that.
I liked his plan.
Lots of choice, including catastrophic, with a government subsidized option for the truly indigent.
Anyone who wanted coverage would be able to find something that worked for them.

Trump would like to support a plan under which people would pay less and get more. A noble aspiration, but it happens to be impossible. That’s why the release of a specific plan is something he keeps promising but doesn’t deliver.
He’s been in this bind since he abandoned his previous support for single-payer.

There are very few health encounters where a free market will produce a satisfactory system - cornea surgery and boob jobs are two examples.
Polio prevention is an example where that doesn’t work. Pregnancy is another. Emergency medicine is a third.

We have Medicare/Tricare Life, and every year meds are cut, and copays for Express Scripts go up, now the Base Pharmacy is the only other place we can get scripts. Some are already OTC, all from China. Hub served 20 years in the USN. He is 83, I’m 75. Lots of restrictions and noncoverage for me, they call them Cosmetic, but not having the procedures impacts my health.
Nexium is the only GERD med I can take. It is a must-have med, I have Barrett’s Esophagus a pre-cancer, and they won’t remove it.

The free market is the voluntary cooperation between buyers and seller with no idiotic government middleman interfering and draining everyone else’s time, money, and incentives.
Before the 1960’s our healthcare was based on the free market principles of patients voluntarily choosing whoever doctor they desired and had a direct doctor-patient relationship. The best healthcare system in the world before government weaseled and muscled in.
