A United States Air Force fighter pilot training to be a Top Gun has been crowned Miss America.

Madison Marsh, 22, who comes from Fort Smith, Arkansas, won the top award at a ceremony in Orlando, Florida on Sunday night.

Second Lt Marsh was crowned Miss Colorado in May 2023 before competing in the finals to scoop the top award. Marsh is the first active duty officer from any branch of the military to represent at the national level of the Miss America organization.

This year's runner-up is Miss Texas, Ellie Breaux who would be called to step in if Marsh is unable to complete a full year of service.

Miss Indiana Cydney Bridges came third, Miss Kentucky Mallory Hudson placed fourth while Miss Rhode Island Caroline Parente came fifth.

Fifty-one contestants participated in the event, representing all 50 US states, as well as the District of Columbia.

“ Women can also shoot guns. So? Women in any combat role is a farce. They are not warriors. Try this exercise...let’s declare that the military can only be comprised of one sex. Which one will you pick? Case closed.”

I didn’t say women should be in combat.

This “women can serve in combat roles” trope is tiring. All “New think” BS. The teen boy reaction to pictures of women by many men on this forum is also tiring.

You said "Women can fly fighter jets". Remind me again what 'fighter' jets engage in?

I think technically, she’s an Air Force officer. Airman implies enlisted.

It’s mandatory to say it.

“There’s no way she’s flying fighters with that figure. Period.”

I don’t know.. I’ll have to study some naked pictures of her to form an opinion.

I thought the “Top Gun” fighter pilot school was for Navy and Marine Corp aviators. When did it open to the Air Force?

Wait until they allow dudes to compete. Lots of tucking and massive hair removal to make a guy look good in those skimpy bathing suits. Yuck! Now I need to go throw up.

You’re right. I have been happily married to the same woman for 39 and a half years now, but it doesn’t mean I can’t look.

She has a degree from the AF Academy and is studying for an MPA at the Kennedy school.

If you are talking ground combat, I could not agree more. As in you are correct. But well being able to take and extra quarter G can come in handy. (I am of course only referring to people in top physical condition.) This is not PC junk. It's based on actual science and studies. Not hard to search for them. So this is a rare case where the facts support the issue. Let's call it an exception that proves the rule.

Doesn’t really look strong enough to be any kind of soldier or airwoman, I’d expect more of a tomboy or girl athlete...

I hope that she can shoot and fly well, assuming her career in the USAF isn’t riddled with ‘achievement medals’…

There are women who could and would fight.

Would the American public stand what almost certainly would happen after some get captured?

Your post confused me. I thought you were negating my comment about not being a current fighter pilot. Mea culpa.

She makes it sound as if her path forward will not be as a career fighter pilot.
She speaks of public policy and cancer research.
I don’t know if those are legitimate answers, or trained beauty pageant answers.
She can make a lot more coin outside of the military.

Again, so what? Women can also endure more pain than a man. So, wouldn’t that give them more resiliency on the field of combat? A warrior, airborne or otherwise, requires a certain psychological make up. It is an instinctively male trait, rarely possessed by women. But, if you cannot comprehend this, then future debate is futile.
