‘There won’t be any beer come March’: US Anheuser-Busch workers threaten strike
The Guardian (UK) ^ | 17 Jan 2024 | Michael Sainato

Workers who make Bud Light and other top-selling beers are threatening to strike in demand of significant wage increases, job security and improvements to retirement and benefits in the first big union contract battle of 2024.

Five thousand workers, represented by the Teamsters at 12 Anheuser-Busch breweries in the US, are threatening to strike after voting 99% in favor of a strike authorization last month. Their current union contract is set to expire on 29 February.

“Without a contract by February 29, there won’t be any beer come March,” the Teamsters warned on X.

The contract fight is the first at Anheuser-Busch with the Teamsters president, Sean O’Brien, at the helm of the union. Elected in 2022, O’Brien led the union in securing record contract gain at UPS last year amid threats of a massive strike.

“If Anheuser-Busch’s executives can’t get their act together to negotiate an agreement that respects workers, we will see them out on the streets,” O’Brien said in a statement on the strike vote. According to the Teamsters, the union hasn’t met with Anheuser-Busch since 16 November, when the company refused to negotiate on job security.

My Wife is German. She says that stuff is not real beer. Twelve year old kids can drink it in Germany.
She likes her beer rather dark and room temp. I like to see thru mine if I feel the need to drink one.

I visited Zurich, Saltzburg and Munich in 1990. One of the things that surprised me was that they did not have a big selection of beers. Each town had their own brewery that served that town. Every place served the same thing. Even in Munich, a city of 5 Million, every place serves Lowenbrau. Even Burger King.

It was not until the end of the trip we went to the American Bar in Zurich. They had menus in five languages(German, Italian, French, English, Japanese). They had five different beers available. I had a Bud bottle.

I also ordered a porterhouse steak. They grilled it and served it with butter on top. There was an old man sitting at the table next to me. He asked me in a German accented English. “What are you eating young man? I replied “A steak, you know beef”. I do not think he had ever seen one before.

I can’t begin to tell you how many cases of Rock my friends and I consumed @ $5 per case. The Skeller is gone, and I am still passed.

FYI, I HATE ales. I can not stand that bitter over hoppy taste. They only ales I like are the White Ales and the Wheat beers. Blue Moon and Shock top are the Coors/InBev versions.

I take personal credit for popularizing Rolling Rock in Columbus Ohio in the mid 70s. “From the glass lined tanks of old Latrobe’. Could not get the ponies in Ohio but 12 ounces served one well

While I’m not a beer drinker, I do know that there are many micro-brewers and craft beer makers all over the place, just itching to get their product in as many hands as possible. Not to mention other big companies. So I don’t think that was the smartest move on the Anheuser-Busch workers’ part.

But, carry on. We’ll see how this goes.

The local Kroger’s has Hamm’s 30 packs for 18 bucks. I don’t see the problem here.

“I don’t see the problem here”

Me either other than the ones AB themselves have.

Sometimes used in cooking shrimp or crabs. 😊

They say don’t cook with wine you wouldn’t drink. Is the same not true for beer?

Yes, but I believe it is still made in Ol Mexico.

However, I prefer Dos Quis Amber over Modelo.
Pacifico is also a good choice.

If I want a really light beer I prefer Sol over Corona or Modelo.

From "It's the Water"...

To "Rocky Mountain Spring Water"...

To "It's the glass lined tanks of old Latrobe."

There’s no beer coming from AB now - it’s all p*ss water, only suitable for consumption by college kids, alcoholics, and people who don’t know how beer is supposed to taste.

I couldn’t tell from a quick scan of the article just what the wage demands were, however I hope it’s over $1,000 per hour, the ability to work from home, and use of a private jet. And, hold the line, don’t cave, stay away from work until you get it.

When I was in Satzburg in 1990 my wife and I went to Augustiner Bräu Mülln.

https://www.augustinerbier.at/

It was July so we sat outside in the garden. They served beer in clay liter steins. It was brewed by monks. Stored in wooden barrels. The beer came out of the basement store house at about 40 degrees F. However, the older men would take their full stein over to the beer warmer water bath to raise the temp.

It was a great authentic experience. However, all they had to eat back then was sour krout and wiener shnitzel. No one spoke English either. I remember I had really bad indigestion.
